Surely better for them to get the test so they know what it sounds like. Mum was expecting it anyway - she'd heard about it on the radio and on the TV news.
Fair enough. Mine are well into their 80s, hadn't heard about it, and were concerned about phone functionality thereafter. I'm sure you did what was right for your mum, I did what I deemed most suitable for mine in the circumstances.
Kindness is always the right choice.

A couple of weeks ago,I did my usual trip to a nearby pub with neighbour, I mentioned the alert. She spends a lot of time on social media, and apparently reads the news online. She knew nothing about the alert. Then the landlady, bar staff,a few customers, all said they knew nothing about it, I was obviously barking mad. It was either fake news or a scam!!!

Developing self-awareness and working on improving critical thinking are essential skills needed on the internet these days. We're all manipulated by fear, rage, and hopelessness at various times. Learn to identify the bait, cross-check facts and hold on to hope.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
