I acknowledge Charles as the king, but I wouldn't give up my life for him. I hope I could give up my life for my children and OH.

Charles doesn't need thanking for your double pay, @Sheps , but the unions (historically) do.  I doubt very much that your employer would be eager to pay you double time or allow you time off work, including paid holidays, without working men and women in the past having fought hard for the right for you, for us all, to have them.

If I was required to fight for my country, and for my king (note, small "k"), or, if the choice was to protect him by putting myself between him and an attacker, it would have to be me.

For instance, to throw myself on a thrown hand grenade.

It ought to be the duty of any UK citizen, but most would say that's down to the police or armed forces only. I fully understand why they think that way.

I would also lay down my life for my wife, if necessary. I vowed as such when I got married.

The difficulty would be if one were trying to kill the other. I can't answer that one.

I'm whatever country'ish I was born in. I only 'like' that country because I was born there - if I had been born elsewhere I would 'like' that country. Isn't that how it works?
For those swearing allegiance - what does that mean? If CIII (like C7) went to war with Scotland, would you still support CIII? Isn't the act the thing that warrants allegiance, not a title? Or else don't you end up like the Tories supporting a bunch of crooks simply because you support Tory'ism?
Yes, I would still support CIII.

I pledged allegiance and support to my Queen years ago, and have no problem with continuing my allegiance to her successor.

I do find that a bit scary. Isn't that simplistically what soldiers do? And there are Chinese soldiers, Russian soldiers - aren't they all just showing allegiance to their leaders, irrespective of where the leaders lead?

I haven’t watched a second of it but I dare say there were soldiers wearing bearskin hats.

Every one of those hats was once a bear. 😕
There may still be some of the old real bearskins left … but nowadays the new ones are made from synthetic skins https://royalhats.net/2013/07/06/bearskin-hats/#:~:text=Current%20and%20past%20members%20of%20the%20Grenadier%20and,however%2C%20they%20were%20made%20from%20real%20bear%20skins.

Are you sure about that @Dovefromabove ?  Unfortunately I can't load the page in your link but I can access several others on t'web which say that Canadian black bear fur IS still used.

It’s what I remember hearing on the radio and there is the site I linked to … but things may have changed. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bearskin
