I don’t read the bible or have any interest in the definitions in it. I don’t care about the definitions in the Koran either or any other religious book. The legal definition is “having sexual relations with someone other than your spouse”
Legally charles and camilla committed adultery. Many times over a period of many years.
To be clear I don’t care what any private person does in their private life. I am unhappy about the idea that these people are to be admired in any way.
If they were so much in love why not marry, give up the crown and live a life of extreme luxury? Not exactly a hardship.

I'm glad to see the official viewing figures showed the overwhelming majority of viewers watched it on BBC
    Devon.

The whole point of our type of monarchy is that is not a prize to be awarded to the most popular, or the most handsome or the most deserving person.  No one says you have to admire them .., that’s the stuff of fairytales.

It’s a responsibility accepted by one family and passed down the generations, each person having spent their whole life preparing for it, being instructed and studying our constitution (such as it is), precedent etc and the monarch then ‘… has the right – indeed the duty – to counsel, encourage and warn her government …’  https://www.commonwealthroundtable.co.uk/commonwealth/eurasia/united-kingdom/from-bagehot-to-brexit-the-monarchs-rights-to-be-consulted-to-encourage-and-to-warn/
ie to stop politicians from over-reaching themselves and getting too big for their boots.

If they also happen to be a model of decorum in their private lives that’s a nice thing,  but the whole idea of the monarch being an example of IoW uk behave was brought in by Prince Albert and the Victorians. If he were around now he’d probably be one of those ‘influencers’ on You Tube.

The legal definition of adultery comes from and was based on the Old Testament … it was supported by patriarchal societies as men didn’t trust women and wanted to make sure they weren’t leaving their estates etc to another man’s child.

If you have no interest in religious rules why would you have an opinion on who someone else that you are not involved with had sex with? 😵‍💫

It is no longer a crime in this country … it was/is however a legal reason for divorce  … some of us committed/admitted adultery in order to get a divorce.

I think we do pomp and ceremony very well. The ceremonial buildings we have - by and large - are there because of that pomp and ceremony. The cathedrals would not exist without some belief in that concept of ceremony. What do you become if you strip that colour out of life - dull, grey and men/women in business suits? Concrete buildings holding grey people - who may be liars and adulterers anyway? And are we now saying that public office can't be held if the prospective holder has broken the law? If we had an elected president rather than a monarch would they have to be vetted before they could hold office?

I'm no monarchist, but I'd much rather have the stability of a life long leader, rather than some elected-every-n-years head of state. I thought the Queen did a very good job representing the country - and I hope Charles continues in the same vein. I personally think we have a good balance between the pomp, ceremony and the representation of the values of the country (if a country can have values). I like the history in our monarchy whether I agree with the concept of a divinely inspired monarchy or not.

What is this obsession with adultery? The sex life of the monarch has little bearing on how well he can or can't do the job. It would have been a miracle if his marriage to an immature and woolly headed person, 13 years his junior, with whom he seemed to have little in common had worked. It was a mistake from the start and I know many people who said it way back in 1981.

I went into town yesterday and there were pictures of Diana everywhere. I find it highly disturbing that so many people outside her immediate family are still so obsessed with somebody who died more than 25 years ago. The mass hysteria we saw after her death feels as though it is still bubbling just below the surface.
some are still obsessed by someone who ( allegedly ) lived 2023 years ago , long after he ( allegedly ) died on a cross

Precisely … it means having sex with someone you are not married to  … that includes if one or even both of you are single.
