Evening all. We've been to beautiful Quedlinburg today - rammed full of medieval half timbered buildings and lots of tiny cobbled lanes. A nightmare to cycle (even walk) on but lovely to look at. Spent a good couple of hours in the ancient church which has one of the best treasuries in Germany. I get stupidly excited seeing garments and books which are a thousand years old.

I think we were a bit early in the year. Quite a few things didn't open until May and the town was very very quiet. It was also very, very cold - 7C with a keen draught blowing down all those alleys.

Stuck it out until 2pm but by then we were both so cold we decided on an unplanned visit to (you've guessed) another sauna world. 6 hrs of beilng baked and poached saw us nicely warmed up. The jaccuzzi jets were really powerful and they've really pummelled away some aches and pains in my back so I'm feeling very happy.

Debs - best wishes for your OH. He is doing the right thing!

Bon voyage BL - hope the journey goes well.

Good morning Rosie, Ruby and all later arrivals. Wow T'Bird that was a very cold temperature - nice to know that the sauna thawed you both out. I think my back could do with a good pummelling but its slowly getting there. I don't find it stupid to enjoy seeing ancient artefacts. I am always in awe in museums. I try imagining all the history surrounding the items and then realise that I am adding to their history too by being in their presence and observing them. Don't get me started on dinosaurs!

Morning all. Bit cooler outside this morning, just popped to greenhouse and have found some little slug trails all over the emerging dahlia leaves. 😡Can't find it anywhere so have brought it outside and will have a good look after we come back from SM.
I need a new watch battery to as my trusty wrist watch has given up the ghost. So a trip into town is called for too today.
Hope you all have a good day. Safe journey Busy, have a nice time with bestie LB,Rosie hope you've got back to sleep, those at work I'm hoping for a decent day for you.

Hi all. Got weekly shop done and popped into town for bits and a new watch battery. After dinner OH decided he was going to paint the brown hook-on tile edging on the front low 'porch' area a nice black colour. So whilst he painted, I stood on lower rung and held onto him🙂
Whilst I was standing there, I noticed quite  a few plants in the front garden were looking poorly so have fed them all, watered and then potted up a box plant OH got the other day. We are now tired so need a cuppa and a jammy doughnut to recover 😊😂

Good afternoon all. I've had a nice time with Bestie today. We sat and nattered and drank loads of tea. Just as I left her house, the rain began! When I got home my neighbour handed two packages to me - one full of plants and the other containing a chrome plant mist sprayer which had arrived whilst I was out. The last mist sprayer I had - somewhat similar in behaviour to Hazel's watch battery - had given up the ghost. Need to get myself something to munch now as I am feeling a little peckish. Sad to say that there are no jammy doughnuts here!

Evening all. We're now in Magdeburg at a campsite about 40 mins cycle trip from the city centre. If it's not raining we'll cycle in tomorrow and have a poke round. Don't think it will be the medieval beauty of the last few days (the RAF did a thorough job when they flew over in 1945....) but OH needs to be here to suss out a few things for a future trip.

On the way here we went to Halberstadt. Yet another beautiful (but extraordinarily quiet) medieval town with a couple of very interesting churches / cathedrals and a stonkingly good treasury. Yet more ancient treasures including 1000 year old tapestries in remarkably good condition, ancient vestments, lots of relics and beautiful reliquaries and some large ivory carvingsdating back to the 5th C. Having a whale of a time seeing all these goodies.

Glad you had a good time at besties LB - nice to receive your parcels when you got back.

Yet more DIY for Hazel and her OH. Put me to shame!

Hope BL has had a good journey.

Rosie - hope you get a better night's sleep 🙂

Topbird, you sound as if you're having a whale of a time, delving into the past with various things and thoroughly immersing yourself into that past. I find it fascinating to think about the hours that the people who did such things as tapestries must have spent on them, the dedication? the money? the skill? ( who taught them? ) and to think that some are 1000 years old. Incredible.
Son has just popped in after work and has said he will paint the flashing for OH as I don't want OH going onto the roof. He said he would enjoy that- he likes doing practical things 🫣
LB, oh you came home to some nice goodies there! What plants did you get?
