Great rose photos. Still nothing for me at all. What I have been admiring is the immaculate foliage on Lion's Fairytale:
This is 5.5ft tall by 4ft wide and every leaf on the entire bush looks like this. Extraordinary. @Marlorena so you still have your Lion's FT? I remeber you saying you have/had one large bush planted as 2 or 3.
Does anyone grow/grown summer sweetheart climber by any chance?
@purplerallim, thanks for that. I had thought it may be in the wrong spot but after looking on line, apparently it seems to be in the right place(?). Gets the sun on a morning, it's against our potting table and then shade in afternoon with a bit of late sun later on towards the evening. If it doesn't do much I will try re-siting it, as you suggest and take it from there. Thanks again. A lot of learning going on here regarding roses😊
@Alfie_ Yes I have 'Champagne Moment' as I know it... mine has buds but some way off blooming.. lovely healthy foliage as per yours.. my plant was pruned hard during winter, so quite short and being crowded out by a huge seeded foxglove.. Your rose is simply terrific, I've seen photos of it.
@edhelka I'm glad you asked me this question as it gives me all the excuse I need to talk about one of my favourite perennials, but it's not Verbascum. I have had V. chiaxii and phoenicum 'Flush of White', 'Rosetta' and 'Violetta'.. I found all to be short lived although it's said that chiaxii lasts longer, but it seeds here and grows rather large, but spectacular.. My favourite Verbascum is 'Flush of White', which like the others is best grown as an annual where it flowers all summer and is a great substitute for white Delphiniums, being shorter and stockier.. Here with 'Munstead Wood'..
.. I currently only have 'Violetta' in the garden.. the issue with keeping them into a second year for me was that they got invaded by mullein moth caterpillars, which didn't look pretty in a tended border, so I've not grown them since, other than as an annual.
One of my top 5 perennials is this.. Lythrum 'Dropmore Purple'... I absolutely adore it, I have groups of 3 here and there. It's very slow to start, begins flowering in early July, then continues into autumn.. tall spikes, untroubled by anything, sturdy, stiffly branching and self supporting.. prefers moisture yet mine did not flinch in last years heat. Some autumn colour too.. ..during the heatwave when most things were drying up.. ..in the late evening light they turn purple..
..glad you had a nice time in N. Wales.. would have been nice to see some pics.. maybe another time..
