@WAMS your PCdM looks like it's off to a great start! I've had mine for four years now and every year has been a joy. My only complaint is that the sturdy, extremely upright growth means that you have to be clever with pruning to get blooms distributed throughout the plant, but that's a small complain as these things go!
@Alfie_ Thank you for your post and the beautiful photo of Chandos Beauty. I was swithering between two or three of the suggestions from previous posters, including considering CB. I have now decided to purchase Chandos Beauty! Thanks for all the help from the rose experts on this thread. Much appreciated. I hope to have this rose in situ by the end of next week and be sitting in its fragrance during the summer time.
@Marlorena - yes I know what you mean. I was given Ena Harkness as a gift. Fire engine red hybrid tea climber isn’t my ideal rose but when they come round and ask how it is I better have it in my garden somewhere
Yes I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and yes it looks lethal with those daggers. J Parker’s are now doing 50% off their bare roots. Tempting when even ones like iceberg would be £3 but I fear it’s getting very late approaching June soon.
Some Desdemona buds looking very red! Not the white they should be.
I moved this last year and it seems to be much happier on the edge of my wildflower area but still close enough to the seating area to smell it. I just keep and eye it doesn't get smoothered.
@Marlorena yes it is really pretty and still on my list, so I’ll enjoy seeing your photos. I agree I think it might be a touch early this year, but I’m sure we’ll still have a good time. I’ll get to see the new rose I presume!
No blooms on roses, nothing to report, frustration. Thanks so much for all your pics. At least, I know what I am waiting for. Looks like Young Lycidas will win the race, however not with the disfigured bud shown previously. Jenny Duval is smothered in buds. That will be a wonderful sight.
@WAMS I have bearded Iris in every colour, except red. The breeders are really creative. I find them a good rose companion as their roots don't go deep. No competition in the root area when planting as close together as I do. I agree with your daughter, Kathryn is a lovely, ruffled rose.
@Meomye I water my potted roses twice a week provided there is no rain. Then I feed them once a week with regular liquid fertilizer. Since joining this forum I have ordered a different slow release fertilizer for the roses in the ground. My first feed already happened in March, the second is due mid June. I try to time it with a little rain.
Today's bank holiday is called father's day in Germany. Actually, it is mostly the not-yet-fathers who go on a walk with a boom box and a handcart filled to the brim with alcohol. To all the males: happy father's day.
@Alfie_ I hung onto Darcy Bussell because it was a gift but was going to quietly get rid. Then it was discontinued and suddenly I wanted to keep it. Funny how rarity can unaccountably increase desirability 😆
@WAMS I think that’s really pretty with the silvered reverse. So long as your daughter is happy, who cares.
Interesting Marie Pavie, Marlorena, mine has never had those red buds and never such pink blooms, but never had any mildew like Tacks either. Just different climate I expect.
Guy Savoy is late this year, but has become a different rose since moving from a pot to the ground a few month’s ago. It used to grow tall and narrow but is now spreading out:
Blush Noisette is also much happier released from a pot, not surprising as it’s capable of growing three or four times bigger than this:
Got my tall standard Ghislaine de Feligonde staked and it’s made a huge difference to it’s stability - tested in strong winds yesterday. The woodyard didn’t have the longer stakes I wanted, so it looks more like a standard lamp rather than the tall narrow obelisk I’d planned! I will knock the colour back with a grey/brown stain I think:
Starting to bloom at the top:
@agnasia here's another bloom comparison you might like from last year, looking rather glam against the black granite kitchen worktop! The flash has washed out Soul, it’s a deeper red in reality:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Still very busy so not posting much. I have got three blooms today 🥳 I am so tempted to cut and bring those three flowers. Might do it after my meeting to keep on desk and might shatter those by evening by smelling again and again
Summer song ( I didn't prune, it looked so weak that I left it to just grow. It is looking darker than it is in real life). Crown Princess Margarita (I forgot to prune! lots of blackspots on last years leaves) Gertrude J

My daughter, who chose it because it shares her name, is beside herself with triumph!
