I like the idea of buying a rose, and moving it around to see how it fares with sun etc... how long would I be able to keep a bought potted rose in its own pot before planting it out?
Also, all these lovely combos is making me question the benefit of such a blooming large lawn! We 'did' the wedding last year, not sure there's gonna be another, so I'm eyeing up areas where I can create more beds for ... ROSES!
Pitter patter, your roses are on steroids.. look at that 'Harlow Carr', just fabulous.. and your Lilac Bouquet's are superb.. I was considering Leah Tutu just recently, it will grow as a short climber, does it have much scent to your nose? thanks.. @pitter-patter
@dabolem I think Bathsheba has less thorns. Taken these just now for you. I see the thorns only on the main cane and no thorns on the others. Bathsheba CPM: the top basal has sharp thorns but the bottom one hasn't and you can thorns on main cane as well. @Alfie_ yes it's just one plant and 4th summer in the garden. I may not good at describing scent as I have only started rose gardening 3 years back. Loads of flowers exhibiting strong Myrrh scent and the good part is still I can stand next to them taking loads of pictures without headaches 🤓 But I just can't sniff Tess, Scepted d'isle, Cymbeline, Fair Bianca etc more than once.
@HarryWhite yes that would have been me saying Blue for You does well in exposed areas. This is mine on a cool grey day today, with far right Blue Moon and Ruby Wedding at the back, Blue for You next going left, Celebration, and the Red standard just coming into flower.
@dabolem Give your BfY another year and it's scent will follow you around.
Also my white climber is just getting started
Sheila's Perfumed first flower And a close up of Blue Moon Plus the beautiful bouquet sent by hubby for our anniversary
Cymbeline: Nice to look at but the scent is way too strong for me.
Evelyn: Wild Edric: exhibits a strong clove scent but this is a most thorniest rose of all. CPM: Mme Hardy - planted in 2020, I really wanted to remove as they didn't smell nice as they say.. neglected without watering last dry summer and it stayed alive. On this bloom I have detected a strong pleasant soft baby poweder scent for the first time, I am going for it again and again. Probably I will keep it. Mme Isaac Prairie - The worst disease prone rose I have. Gets everything though I spray. The scent is lovely, every year I see loads of fat buds, nurtured with extra water this year and the flowers still looking faded, dull and petals are dry looking. I just couldn't recollect seeing good flush of blooms on this rose. CPM is just next to it and doing well. What's wrong with this rose please? I am really inclining to remove this rose. I would be grateful to hear any advice to get the best out of this.
@pitter-patter I wonder if you would even notice if a chubby Kiwi moved into your garden. Perhaps I could swap myself for the Buddha statue.🤔
Charles Rennie Macintosh A peony
@JessicaS if my Eyes for You looked like yours, I wouldn't complain! But mine has never looked good tbh. It never opens enough for me to get a glimpse of the golden stamens. The petals stay folded in on themselves and it just looks a bit munted generally.
More beautiful roses everyone, it lifts my day to see them all! @edhelka I do like the look of your roses, especially Belle de Crecy and Purple Lodge. Could you tell me how you would compare them? I am looking for something scented in a sort of purple-red tint, but not too too dark.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
I have gardener's insanity. Saturday, 10
so far online only garden friends are visiting for real. It's a huge
difference showing picture perfect corners only or inviting people to
walk around the entire garden. I am in a frenzy, really. Fortunately,
my roses are very supportive and opening blooms. One by one so I can
duly notice them. In between weeding out forgetmenots and alliums
and watering the garden (last rain was middle of April and nothing in
the forecast) the following pics were taken.
Bathsheba still a bit crunched. Have it since 2 years and eagerly wait for the leap to cover the arch I
gave her. Despite the lack of water it is healthy. A lot of my other
roses suffer from mildew this year.
Potted Charles Austin received fresh
soil in spring, reward is a couple of new basals. This one is surely
not going to live in a pot forever. It is huge.
Perfume Flower Circus was moved early
spring to the front of the flower bed as it is a low growing rose.
What a colour.
Gloire de France a once flowering
gallica with a strong old rose scent. Very healthy too, tolerates a
shadier spot.
Kathryn, a rose with unique colouring.
Healthy but not putting on any growth, one legged thing. @Wams we
seem to like the same kind of roses...
This is a purchase thanks to this
forum, Olivia RA. My first bloom.
Nuits de Young is not making any
progess since I showed the wrapping what 3 weeks ago? Got it as a
shoot in 2019, put it duly in a pot without bottom and have not
received any growth since then.
My favoured combination currently,
Jenny Duval and James L. Austin. I have Young Lycidas in the background too.
Pinkish and fragrant delight.
The daily Petit Prince update. We have
sunshine and 25 degrees during the day and about 8 degrees at night.
It does not change the colour at all and it does not open. So far
only the lightest of scents.
Vanessa lives in a very dry spot. This
is its 4th year and it is still a very slim thing. I might
have to move it. But where?
Something has been munching all, all my
Jacques Cartier white buds. And it has so many of them. A healthy,
lowish damask rose with a strong fragrance.
Mind Games grown as standard. Not
scented, keeping the colours well.
Airbrush has terrible leaves this year.
I should unpot it and have a look. Something is really off.
Eugène and a matching peony. Both are
placed at the far end of the garden and are well visible. The blooms,
not the blackspotted leaves.
