Could anyone help me put a name to this rose please … I bought it 5 years ago, the day after my beloved dog passed away to commemorate her so I have always called it Coco’s Rose and have forgotten what it’s called.
I know it isn’t a David Austin rose so might that help? It’s a shrub rose and is really healthy, I’ve moved it 3 times and it always performs and doesn’t sulk! It has got lovely glossy leaves and has a really long flowering season, it always produces a bloom by the date of her anniversary which is 18th May. Coco was a beautiful little female dog so perhaps the name might reflect that … I’d love to know, or is it like looking for a needle in a haystack? 🐶🥰
Glad to hear your Blue for You is doing so well @WAMS 😁 they do seem to be bomb proof, although don't be inclined to hard prune during the winter, it's the only time mine sulked! You should get a good display now, and if you take out the middle rose from each bunch when finished, it will give room for the rest to fully open. Then cut back to a node, and it will regrow double again for August. Be ready for a scent overload!!!
I think the yellow rose picture and @Marlorena has just solved what the rose is on the arch in my new house, Maigold. Not usually a fan of yellowish roses but the scent is wonderful.
It’s growing up one side of the arch and I think I would like something that reliably repeats to go up the other side of it, any suggestions please?
I can't help with the ID CatDouch, it's certainly not one I have but the foliage and bloom are lovely, nice association too, pets break your heart when they go.
I like aquilegias too Purple, you have a lovely border there. I think I need Blue For You by the sounds and look of it...I had to deal with 2 imposters in this Ducat Mella rose, I finally twigged it wasn't all as pale as this but what had stopped me realising earlier was that one of these suckers was off a pruned cane. I haven't had much success with a climber in a pot @daisym so hesitate to recommend it, you'd certainly need a much bigger pot and I'm sure a rose like Strawberry Hill would be great for 2-3 years. My 3 yr old one (in ground) is now 8ft but if you have the space to train sideways and prune hard (and water/feed/water /water on a loop) it is probably ok. I tried Purple Skyliner but that became a mildewed mess, now second year Wild Rover is training nicely but is my most blackspotted rose already, I pick leaves off daily, please ignore the kayaks, they will be moved soon, the red kills everything I try to make attractive.
@daisym and we haven’t even got onto the right soil mix for a pot yet! Planting a rose in a pot does need both initial planning and ongoing care if you want it to thrive and bloom well.
@purplerallim those aquilegias are gorgeous! Another one here pleased with my new Blue for You inspired by your good self 😃
@alexander.wade I would certainly be tempted to plant a tree on the left to shield me from the nearest house and maybe even add some trellis to the top of your fence to mute the effect of the more distant houses. Assuming it is your fence and you are allowed to do that. Otherwise it would look great with some climbing roses. How many you need does depend on the size of the ones you choose. You could even go for a single large and vigorous climber or rambler planted in the middle and espalier the canes both left and right.
Well it’s all guns blazing here, another opening today, the first of Lady Hillingdon looking very yolky yellow but smelling so much nicer than a fried egg!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@daisym you might want to look into the Siluetta collection of Kordes roses for your pot. They are climbers but not of the high and mighty type.
@alexander.wade if I had an 8 m border to plant, I would never be able to restrain myself to 1-2 roses. If you want to wait for the cheaper bare root season I would just throw in a lot of seed for annuals now and plant properly in autumn. Agree with the others on plants for height as well as for winter aspect. I recommend prunus subhirtella autumnalis as it flowers when nothing else does. And maybe flowering crab apples.
Nothing at all here regarding rose blooms. But lots of allium and cytisus or do you call it broom?
I brought some nice leaves. Gloire de France flowers only once but is healthy and happy in a rather shady location. Maurice died back to graft but has recovered. Draga Frayla has such a healthy, glossy and thick foliage.
Btw if anyone wants to visit and is on Instagram, I just loaded a stroll in my garden. There is only one Elb.Fee with a rose icon .
That is a lovely bloom on Othello though Marlorena. I’ve not been thinking kind thoughts about my new Falstaff yet, it’s a scrawny thing with none too impressive blooms but I do have Owd’s in my head to remind me that it will be better.

My Falstaff started dying from the moment it was planted, Nollie!
This is Lolabelle (Trevor White), planted in October. I don't know if the pictures convey it (the alliums confuse the eye), but it is covered in buds. It has twice as many buds as some of my second and third year roses! And is very glossy and neat.
I found an abandoned stool at the side of the road and thought it might have plant-support potential after it is painted. A tall dahlia, maybe? I don't know! Perhaps I'll just put a seat on it and turn it into a stool again. This area is where we had to remove a stricken ash. It's about 1.5 - 2 metres across of bare earth at the moment and I am still mulling over what to put here. Perhaps just hollyhocks, cosmos and wildflowers for now. Or maybe Othello, after seeing Marlorena's and hearing the scent description!
Still no roses yet, apart from a munted bud on Kathryn, so I am enjoying my azalea and pointedly ignoring them.
Elbfee, I'm not too adept at Instagramming but I will try to find your tour. edit: found it! So restful and harmonious. What are the globular white things in the opening shot, please?

Hope 'Falstaff' gets better for you.. I sometimes think we can have a few too many of these types..
