@Rojas gorgeous Costace Spry! Since I see you have both Bathsheba and Crown Princess Margareta, can I ask you to compare them? Which one is more floriferous and repeat better? How do they grow? Disease? I am undecided which one of the two I want, any info could help me. Thanks!
@Marlorena thank you for the kind encouraging words and I had to look at Mottisfont pictures. I do miss your spectacular display of Mme Lauriol de Barny. I only wish I can smell the flowers!
@dabolem both CPM and Bathsheba are in its 3rd year. In my garden CPM is doing better may be this is because Bathsheba was a poor specimen from TCL. This year CPM has lots of new basals.
Health-wise Bathsheba is better but I spray.I love the shade, colour variations, flowers held upright, shape of Bathsheba but I am finding CPM's scent pleasant. @Marlorena had posted a lovely vase full of Bathsheba roses (like a picture perfect wedding roses bouquet🥰) in the past.
Thanks Marlorena and Rojas. I love the nuances of Bathsheba but I also like CPM …how about the thorns? Which one is less prickly? i ask because as time goes by and I get older I really don’t want to “fight”with very thorny roses anymore.
I have a few that are readily opening up now. Malvern Hills rambling rose
Blue For You in full flow, with Summer Song in the obelisk just starting to open her first bloom. How would you describe the scent of BFY?
Fellowship have been strutting their stuff for 3 weeks now
And The Lark Ascending has just a couple of blooms on, but plenty of buds. Such a fast growing rose this, already 4 x 4ft in it's second year.
The Country Parson is also starting to get going, looks nice and healthy but two that are a little bit disappointing at present are William and Catherine and The Lady of Shallot. LOS has most of it's blooms on the floor but i think it's only because it's only entering her second season, i'm sure she'll strengthen up a bit next year. William and Catherine seems to lose it's petals in the slightest breeze.
I've just seen Ronnie O'Sullivan at the garden center. I think he was eyeing up a plant.
@Dabolem, I only have a new from bareroot Bathsheba (not CPM... my children would 100% call it Crown Princess Pepperoni) but Bathsheba is so far looking vigorous, healthy, and thornless. It hasn't bloomed yet but it is already making a good impression. Very bendy.
@HarryWhite my Lady of Shalott was flopping and sprawling everywhere in year two and so late last summer I put an obelisk behind it. This year (year three) I can actually see the blooms. It's stunningly bright and highly visible from the house now, too.
@HarryWhite I do like your 'Fellowship' border of bright orange roses, glowing in the hot sunshine.. they have their place and look so healthy too.. Your Malvern and views are stupendous.. As for 'Blue For You', I would describe it as cinnamon apples... apple pie spice..
Now that is interesting @Marlorena , as I would call Blue for You turkish delight ( on steroids) its amazing how differently people perceive scent! I also just realised that the scent is just as strong on a cloudy day, we have had quite a few, so no heat to make them produce! So take your pick @HarryWhite 😁
