My Ghislaine de Feligonde is out! I'm so happy. Three tiny little flowers out of a cluster so far - unfortunately the photo is blurred so I'll try again tomorrow. I hate to say it but it's far too hot to walk up the garden again, just hit 26.3c!
@dabolem Re 'Lilac Bouquet'... yes, both.. I've grown it in sun and shade.. you know it's a rambler don't you? shorter type.. my plant is still shrubby at the moment.. Re 'Thomas a Becket'.. for the first couple of years it's a somewhat ridiculous rose, but from 3rd year, with support, it starts to look how it should.. best allowed to grow to its fullest at 5 or 6 feet..
@Littlegarden I'm delighted you are getting the Lavender.. it's worth it I think..
I hope those with 'Forever Royal' are pleased with it.. mine is just starting. 'Kathleen Harrop'.. 'Cornelia'.. ..astonishing vigour from 'Lady of Shalott', whilst in full bloom..
@Nollie - thank you for the advice re weeping standard. Since you say GT has the right growth habbit for it I will certainly give it a try.
@WAMS that is a huge victory for Luton Town. I don't even support them and found the final very nail biting (Father in Law is a huge fan). Driving on the A505 40mph bit through Stopsley today I was admiring the huge mass of poppies in the middle of the lanes.
@Marlorena that Cornelia hybrid musk is beautiful. How do you rank that vs Felicia and Buff B? I just love the structure and branching of hybrid musks (as well as all their other attributes of course).
A few new ones over the weekend. Graham T blooms have fully opened:
Winchester Cathedral:
Buff Beuaty nearly there:
How do people find the growth of BB? Whist my Felicia has the same dainty branching as BB it is all off the ground. Some braches from BB are flat on the ground.
Chandos B standard being trialed in a pot:
Nice pink rambler - not sure of the name as was here when we moved in. It cascades through the hawthorn every year perfectly timed as the hawthron flowers fade:
^lovely set of roses @Alfie_ 'Felicia' has the sweet scent, and is thornless.. wide spreading, self supporting. 'Cornelia'.. has a musky/sweet scent, also thornless.. wider than tall for me.. Two great hybrid musks.. I don't have 'Buff Beauty'.. I feel it doesn't quite have the charm of the other two, and less easy to accommodate here.. just my personal taste on that..
..some individual blooms.. ..my walk around the garden rose today is 'Mrs. Reynolds Hole'.. one of my best scented roses.. apple and sweet damask, quite lovely.. very much a Bourbon type.. 'Directeur Constantin Bernard'.. a most unusual sweet scent from this old HT.. 'Amelie Nothomb'.. light but pleasantly scented.. 'Lavender Lassie'.. very nice.. 'Bring Me Sunhine'.. 'Mrs. E. G. Hill'.. another old HT rose.. Peony 'Coral Beach'.. fab scent on this.. Parahebe 'Porlock'..
Finally no need to wear fleece as It's quite warm here.
Constance spry: not in full bloom yet as the middle and bottom rows are still empty. The big pink flowers are looking great in the sun against blue sky!
Used a small step ladder to take the below one. From the other side. Full length
'Paul Noel' is such a pretty rambler, reminds me of 'Francois Juranville'..
Yeah, they are quite similar, both very nice roses. I think wichurana ramblers should be grown more, such a nice rose family, bringing together the elegance of teas and noisettes with vigour of the wichurana rose. And 'Paul Noel' is fragrant and repeats. I don't know what more people want When I move from this house, it will be one of the first roses I'll get in any future garden.
@Rojas Your 'Constance Spry' is just fabulous, I especially love the ladder shot, I think it's a great way to take a picture.. Your rose is as good as the one at Mottisfont..
