I mentioned Indigo above, here is my new one. The first blooms spoilt in heavy rain and hail (not really it’s fault) but it seems willing go again. Small violet-pink blooms, about the size of Rose de Rescht, nicely fragrant:
I’m liking Catherine Guillot (a seedling of the more famous Louise Odier) more in it’s second year. The blooms are slightly smaller than my other pink bourbons e.g. Mme Isaac Pereire, but not so garish and rather more refined. Not a climber and fairly compact so far:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie and @Busy-Lizzie Thank you for your comments. Amazing the level of detail required, most of which I would not have thought of, to plant a single rose plant! So thank you for that. Strawberry Hill looks great on the DA video and would certainly suit that spot. Thanks again.
looking at the size of my fence(8m) would two roses do the job? I originally thought of two roses either end and bringing them towards the middle however i am unsure if that's even possible! would maybe need some form of centre piece.
unless maybe i planted clematis and worked them back the other way! yellow being clematis
That looks a good idea, if you are not too impatient, as it will take a couple of years @alexander.wade . To me that boarder is crying out for a dwarf fruit tree. It would give you a little privacy and be productive. The roses and clematis would work well with it too.😁
BTW ..... I remember someone mentioned Aquilegia earlier. This is one of my favourite times of year . The spring bulbs have done, and the roses are just about to start, but between are the blanket of gently nodding heads of the Aquilegia. Magical. And just to keep on topic.... the nearest to opening Celebration
This planter was actually put in free by the company who built the house as I had a good moan after a leak! that's what you get for a new build! I have spoken to the landscaper who put it in and i am pushing the building director to pay to fill it! The landscaper suggested some feature trees however his estimate for his plan was £600 so we are waiting on the directors comments!!!
Quite like the rose, clem, rose, clem, rose idea suggested all except the price tag if going for David Austin at £30 a go! anyone know any other good climbing rose companies that aren't so steep?
Cottage Memories are very reasonably priced and have some lovely ones! Even potted. Trevor White too though his prices have gone up a little bit. And C and K Jones.
Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous, @purplerallim. BTW my Blue for You bought at your instigation is bud-smothered. 30+ buds on a new from bareroot rose, not bad!
I like the landscaper's suggestion... those solar panels would get on my nerves and take my eyes from whatever rose/clematis I put in.. I wouldn't rush, but I'd be wanting those ornamental trees, maybe 3 and some large evergreen shrubs that grow taller than the fence in between..
Lovely big garden, plenty of room for roses and clematis elsewhere I should think..
Still, I'm sure whatever you decide will look great in time, and most of us have to think of costs involved unfortunately.

Or
Rose----clem----rose----clem----rose
------------rose-----------------rose------------
