@WAMS Yeah, im tempted to ask for a summer refund! Id go with styles new ones as they are more unusual... im curious to see how Brendas beauty does too
@salo.daria I swear by that Empathy stuff! I Always use it, nice organic one and hugely noticable difference in my roses colour / scent / vigour / health when I remember to use it.
Fantastic work there, paying off beautifully @PeterAberdeen Edited to add; I didn't really bother with pruning my climbers much for 2 years. If the canes at the back could be tied in to the fence in the fan shape then I did. The plants looked mostly like shrubs until I got strict with them in adolescence.
While I do appreciate the great photography of those with good equipment I think the phone snapshots are fine too. Pictures are the best bits of any post.
I feel for all of you with weather related rose woes, @newbie77 I think has got away with going away this year, good year to choose. When are you back newbie? I think I have been very lucky too, there has not been enough sun for the roses to bloom like they did last year but the rain has been exactly the right amount for new borders this year
@JessicaS totally in the same situation , rain and rain. Everything is rained out , black spot , slugs
We have now the remainings of the storm Anthoni over the country and sun is predicated starting from Wednesday! Hopefully our second flush can be safeguarded.
@PeterAberdeen I would keep that growth unless it is in your way. Some layers can give some charm at climbers.
Appreciate the rain solidarity all! @Tack that borders looking lovely and lush.
We had a bit of sunshine today for once (clouding over now though...) so i stepped out whilst making tea to get some fresh air and see whats survived the deluge.
Dainty Bess, clearly named ironically, huge and spikey with lovely stamens. In a pot but likely to go out the front I think as its growing quite tall. Pomponella. Compact rose with very cute little pompoms. Suprisingly rain resistant too. Brought out of curiosity from cottage-memories bare root, frankly great value at £8. Id even put this in a hanging basket I think to hang down... Wiltshire in a bedding filled pot Very weird mutation on 'Dicks delight' (...gah that daft name) a ground cover Dicksons rose causing several stems and buds to merge

@Tack, I am coming back next Sunday. Yes my roses would be fine with all the rain. I wouldn't have lost any perennials either. It is good timing for me to be away.
@PeterAberdeen Looking great isn't it, after all the hard work you've put in..
Your 'ZD' is very young but the new vigorous shoots are at the back aiming for the wall, so I can't see any problem with that.. the couple of shoots pointing outwards can be pruned back if they have flowered or in your way..
@Marlorena - you are right, of course, the ZD is young and maybe I am to optimistic on growth. I'll leave it and prune back the front (yes they have flowered) in the spring or if they trip me up to much.
Neither of the Madam Alfred Carriere have flowered, and I put that down to youth and getting their roots down. They are both now throwing out canes like it was going out of fashion. So fingers crossed for next year.
@Tack yes that was my assumption fasciation, its as though 3 stems have somehow merged! Ive been watching it for ages to see if all those buds would actually flower.
@PeterAberdeen I have ZD and its a slow starter, mines just suddenly started to get going after probably about 3 years. Its about tripled in size this year and has more buds suddenly though. I will photograph when its out, its up one side of my Arbour. Its isolated to help prevent diseases as its a bit of a magnet else!
One extreme or the other it seems, sorry for those experiencing a washout. We actually had some rain yesterday, but not enough to make much difference to the parched landscape.

Great! Going to give it a try then. Thank you!
I just have to deal with really overgrown grass!
