I think I saw my first bud this morning, on Desdemona. It's not necessarily the first but just the first one I've spotted...because it's right at the front of the house. Still just emerging from the stem though.

Same, I saw buds emerging from the stem on both Olivia Austen and GJ this morning.
  • @Nollie - the Bateau Noir looks brilliant and The Jolly Smudge is a great name for the border.

Some nice roses there, I've had my eye on 'Storyteller' for a while, out of those .. if I'm buying roses in the autumn I might consider it..

The end of a long family line of Dickson's.. I have a couple of roses connected to his great Grandfather Alexander Dickson the second.. if I've got that correct..
Only a few seem to be in commerce today..
Yes, it's sad when a real family business comes to an end like that. Not that it would be fair to expect the next generation to follow in your footsteps, of course...but it must be gratifying when they do.

Wonderful you are growing Sophie's Perpetual, @Marlorena. The pic on Trevor White's website is virtually irresistible and I daresay your pictures will force us all to get it next season

Wonderful photos of new foliage @Marlorena, your roses seem far ahead of mine.

  • @Marlorena - your roses are way ahead of me.  I am lucky if I have 2 small leaves per plant (except The Poet's Wife) after the frost damage 2 weeks ago.

Hopefully it will mean I am just later in getting blooms and all is not lost!

One would expect you to be some way behind, after all, I mean you're close to the Arctic circle aren't you?.. [joke].. I'm not that far off either.. I've never lived this far north and I've got frosts this week..

Your roses will look fabulous, and will catch up in time..  'The Poet's Wife' was a favourite of mine and was never out of bloom once it got going.. performed well in my coldest and shadiest spot too.. about 4' x 6' in such a spot...
Do you have 'The Country Parson'?  it's prickly but I think it would do especially well for you.. it's flowering abilities compete with anything out there..
