Heavy rain here too last night and more to come, on top of the giant hailstones we had a couple of days ago. With sunny day temps in the mid 20s it’s all rather humid. Some roses at near full flush are looking a bit battered and sodden.
@WAMS if the nurseries have existing stock to shift, with online ordering a few are bound to slip through the net. No, I doubt DA can police them all, but if you manage to get an illicit one better to keep schtum to protect the source and pm anyone interested! The recently discontinued ones still under patent can’t be propagated and sold anywhere until they are out of it. It’s hard to get definitive info on the exact terms though, probably a confidentiality clause in the contracts.
My other new standard from Lens, Empereur Charles lV [shrub available from PB] snugly sheltering under the eaves. A rather vivid pink! Edhelka has had this for a few years I think. Early blooms not in their full cups yet..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Now that my son is a bit older I've had time to get out into the garden. I can't believe how sorry looking some of my roses are after a two years of neglect.
Anyway, we've done some rejigging in the garden so I've had to move some of the roses while building work happened. Unfortunately one of my PAOK roses took more than one tumble in their pot and was pretty badly damaged (again!). A couple of the stemps have suffered die-back, so I thought I'd replant into the ground. It's still looking very sorry for itself (2 days post plant) - so my question is - should I give up and put something else there before I risk rose replant disease?
Also, should I be worried that my alfred carriere rose has absolutely no leaves? It was over wintered in a different bed as works were done and I replanted it about a week ago. There look to be some little shoots, but it’s been very slow. Again - if it's a gonner, i'd rather dig up before RRD rears its head.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing what the summer brings!
Thanks @newbie77. It's been a bit of a slog and there's still lots to do. I really need to organise planting perennials and other bits and pieces to soften the borders!
Good to see you @Katsa, I love your garden cabin and patio. I think Marlorena isn't bothered about RRD if a rose is only in situ for a year or so which is the rule I now go by, she will confirm I hope. I'm not in Somerset but we've had a lot of rain too since Monday evening Even the ducks have moved to higher ground! Never had them on the balcony before. I was hoping ORA would be open today, do those who have it tell me it doesn't ball in the rain please...if that's true!
I went to the garden centre today to stock up on plants for my summer pots and hanging baskets and as usual was drawn to the rose section.
I started thinking about our wedding anniversary tomorrow and the fact that I hadn’t bought my husband a present (4 years, so a linen anniversary!!) and wondered about buying a rose with anniversary in the name, even though my husband has very little interest in gardening 😂 I started browsing and think I went off on a tangent as I ended up buying a Roald Dahl potted rose (which I’d been eyeing up on the DA site for a while) for a husband who has rarely read a book in his life 🙈
Hi @Katsa, great to see you, hope you and the little un are doing well. I am very envious of your garden cabin/office and your garden is looking great.
My head says to go by Peter Beales who said you only have to worry about RRD if planting a rose in the same ground another has been in for 2 years or more. But I still tend to change the soil after a year just in case! Can a rose get RRD from itself if you temporarily lift it and replant in the same place I wonder? I suspect your MAC is just a bit discombulated after the move and it will settle down. Maybe cut back some of those long waving laterals that you are not tying in over the arch to reduce stress a bit? See what M has to say..
Love those ducks on the balcony @Tack, brilliant 😆

@Tack ORA buds take a while to open; I haven't noticed them balling so far. Mine are also in a state similar to yours and the only flower that has opened so far, hasn't opened fully yet. Hope they'll all open up together when the sun comes out.

Good thing is my roses are still in buds so not missing much in garden.
@Katsa, welcome back. Your garden view is amazing, its like being on holiday everyday!

@Nollie thanks for your suggestions, but my arch is small (2m high) and though I love Lady Hillingdon I think it’s too big for it.
i was thinking about some smaller rose like Bathsheba, since I need a white or yellow or orange/peach rose there.
