Out planting bedding this morning and caught up with the front garden roses. Twice in a Blue Moon, a bit damaged, excuse the dirty hand😊 And the unknown yellow transplanted from the back garden putting on lots of growth again.
My photos today, wearing a warm coat and hood.. 10c/50F.. lovely.. I feel I've been sent a nuclear winter From Russia With Love.. July will be a scorcher..
'Scented Garden'.. 'Kathleen Harrop'.. 'Tottering by Gently'.. 'Wild Rover'.. 'Cornelia'.. ..the delicious 'Amelie Nothomb'..[Delbard 2014] intriguing musky scent.. opens out into quite a large bloom.. I first saw it at Peter Beales and I had to have it..
What are people’s thoughts on Harlow Carr vs Queen of Sweden? My local garden centre has both and I have a spot in mind for a pink rose. The Harlow Carr roses seem very dainty like it could easily flop onto the ground?
@ElbFee re: Louis.. could you post pics of the bloom and plant from previous years?
@Nollie@LateralBreaks looking forward to both your Yolande d Aragon review towards end of season..
@WAMS I wish it had.. but it wouldn get any stronger than it does on a strong sunny day and that too a new bloom.. still would be medium at best... It probably will be given off or left behind during next house move..
'Narrow Water' 'Daybreak' 'Rosegrafin Marie Henriette' 'Princess Alexandra of Kent' 'Lavender Dream' 'La Belle Rouge' 'Paul Noel' 'Crepuscule' 'Mileva', smells so good 'Minerva'
Munstead Wood is definitely the most photogenic rose in my garden… Interestingly, the gardener Ben guy rate MW’s fragrance higher than Gertrude’s. Those of you who have (or had) both of these roses, what do you think?
'Harlow Carr' has the most wonderful juvenile foliage, with coppery highlights, I used to think it a feature... a very thorny rose, masses of prickles.. but a rose with character and scent.. pitter patter's standard is a sight to behold.. as a shrub it's a bit floppy when young but more stout with age..
'Queen of Sweden' I've not grown, but on observing it elsewhere, it strikes me as lacking in character and substance..

Pelargonium 'Tommy'...
Sceptered Isle, always a good rose.
Charles Darwin, last year I kept thinking about getting rid of it but fragrance is so lovely that I couldn't.
The Poet's Wife, such a floppy rose but lovely flowers.
Borders are slowly getting colours. Roses look so small in front of shrubs and trees!
