@Imprevu@LateralBreaks if I've been asked to recommend a older DA to grow then it would be Cymbeline. Greyish pink, big flat blooms exhibits strong myrrh fragrance, flexible canes, healthy as I didn't spray in this rose much and floriferous and flowers top to bottom. Colour can be darker in spring.
@ElbFee - just got some more liquid from it today. So one big and one smaller comfrey plant made about 3L of liquid which would make up 6 X 10L watering cans of feed.
This is the setup - excuse the rushed scribbly drawing!
Dustbin sat directly on top of sturdy bucket. Holes drilled in bottom of dustbin. I also put a garden riddle inside to stop holes getting blocked as easily.
Then in goes comfrey, weight on top, put the lid on the bin. Leave a couple of weeks and then lift the bin off and decant the liquid from the bucket into a container for storing or straight into watering can.
That's what I've done. Others have used a length of downpipe with a bottle full of concrete, stones or similar as their press and attached that to the side of a shed or wall.
But as I expected to have a large amount of comfrey I went for the bin.
I've also seen folks just use a bin or large container, comfrey in it, weight. Then when it's ready they just tip the whole thing up and the liquid pours out. So that avoids needing a bucket or holes in the bottom.
@Rojas your Cynbeline is gorgeous! Now I MUST search for it, I absolutely need it in my garden. As well as @Marlona’s Being me Sunshine and @Tack ’s Strawberry Hill and … many many others. Oh my, I’ll need to also find a house with a bigger garden…
@Mr. Vine Eye I searched for the Italian name of Comfrey but didn’t manage to exactly identify it. Do you know its botanical name per chance?
How old? We were fortunate to inherit a very mature garden when we moved in last September. We’re wondering now, if it is possible at all to judge the age of the amazing array of roses? (including the one attached). Any advice would be welcomed, thanks.
These threads are terrific and far and away the best part of the site for me, too. As well as our hostess Marlorena, and all the beguiling rose and garden photos, there are interesting discussions of roses and plants of all kinds and also regular appearances from Smudge, Agatha, Jessica's hounds, Tack's reindeer(?) and the others. And Mr Vine Eye's not to be missed MS Paint skills.😁

Lighting is a bit off, imagine it without the strong orange glow in the centre. To the naked eye it just looks like the yellow of the outer petals.
