@Katsa Nice to see you again, it's been a long time.. and what a lovely garden room..
As others have said, no need to worry about rose replant until much further down the line, .. give your roses a year or two.. I would probably have cut back Mme AC by half, as I can't imagine you would have sufficient rootball to cope with all that growth..
The ducks look happy.. I see you have had the rain as well Tack..
After the deluge yesterday I've been busy clearing up the mess.. I've disconnected my water butts because I won't be watering this garden again during the summer.. that must have got in deep..
@CatDouch Happy Anniversary... I hope you enjoy your new rose.. I might have referred you to 'The Anniversary Rose'.. it has a much better scent and beautiful blooms ..
@Marlorena , Yes, we had torrential rain yesterday afternoon, I watched the storm water gaily cascading down our lane, quite a little river there. This area's not called Six Springs for nothing! INot as bad as further down in Somerset/Devon by all accounts. I'm intrigued you've disconnected your water butts, although ours are all full, it doesn't go far in a garden this size.
Hi all. Can i ask if any of you grow lavender as border edge in front of your roses? Does it work well and would you recommend a certain type of lavender? Does it steal the scent of the roses if you have to plant a lot of it?
I'm just stuck for finding alternatives to edging the lawn.
Did anyone see this question?
I have lavender and perennials in beds with roses but not as a border. The roses flower before the lavender.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Thanks @Marlorena. The landscapers kindly moved the rose before I had a chance to do anything about it and then life got in the way. Would cutting it back now be of any use? I would remove all the wiry flappy stems and maybe a couple of the basal stems that are growing the wrong way. The rootball is still quite small.
I went to our gardening club rose group tea yesterday. There were 12 of us. Everyone brought a sample of beautiful roses from their gardens, but mine aren't out yet. It is always at a member's house. This time a lovely old French manor house with a beautiful garden. Our hostess had made sandwiches and 3 cakes. After tea we strolled around her garden. There was a gorgeous rose called Jardin de Granville with huge pale pink scented flowers. Photo doesn't do it justice.
Also another one, yellow climber called Rimosa. I hadn't heard of either rose, but I now want them. André Eve and Meilland do them I think.

^those roses are simply gorgeous, they do some lovely ones in France don't they..
@Katsa If the rootball was small then you might get some dieback, I would wait until you see it shooting out, and then prune it back to the best shoots later on.. you'll have to see how it goes.. I can't understand why it's leafless to be honest.. it's as if the rose has been kept in cold storage..
I've grown lavender with roses, it's not a problem, and if anyone says they need different conditions, then just ignore it.. 'Lady of Shalott' with Lavender angustifolia..
French lavender like this 'Anouk', just starting to flower and will continue with the roses all summer..
