Beautiful roses, @Vh72. I also have Golden Beauty / South Africa this year. Such bright blooms, visible from space! Reminds me of a delicious Callipo ice lolly.
Really wowed by your Ebb Tide @Tack...actually tempted to try it again with a new plant in a pot rather than the ground. It has the best scent...
Your Silas Marner and Sophie's Perpetual are really beautiful, @Marlorena. Sorry you are so disappointed with Elizabeth. At least BMS was a brilliant release by all accounts
Here in an unkept/unloved/not yet started corner of the garden we have found a rambling rose. Mum has no idea of its name although she does remember a neighbour who thought it was Albertine - it only flowers once a season. Any help with identifying it would be great.
Apologies for the mess of this part of the garden, but I am getting there - eventually:
Flower:
Foliage:
Shape (all over the place):
Any help appreciated. Again this is over 40 years old and was on a fence that had long blown over. Tips on how to resurrect it and where to plant (aspect, &c) warmly welcome.
Thanking you all in advance.
EDIT SUPPLEMENTAL: Whilst dead heading one of the Standard Princess Annes I noticed a shoot coming up from the soil about 15cm away from the main plant. Is this a sucker from the root stock and therefore need cutting out. What to do?, what to do?
Sorry to repost this again, but I completely forgot @Marlorena that you were having some work done on your internet and so probably missed this comment. Wondering on your thoughts on the rose?
Hi all. I'm hoping someone can give me a bit of advice on how to get a better Lichfield Angel. Bought as a potted rose last year, i originally had a bit of support in there but probably took it away too soon, when it looked like it was going to be ok (and i needed the support for another plant). I think i've heard Ben Anderson say something along the lines of how good the rose is "once you know how to handle it" but i'm not sure what he means.
The blooms have had there first flush now and i'm thinking of giving it a prune rather than just dead heading. Or should i just dead head and try and let the rose establish more, as it's still young? I'd like it to be taller or more upright. What would you do with this rose?
Could i also ask if anyone has an established Queen of Sweden or an established Tottering By Gently share a picture, preferably of the whole shrub, if possible.
TIA
I've just seen Ronnie O'Sullivan at the garden center. I think he was eyeing up a plant.

@PeterAberdeen My internet is still wayward, apparently we are using a router that should only be found in a museum, so I'm awaiting delivery of a modern version.. something called a 'Hub'.. Meanwhile,... Re your Princess Anne, if you haven't already done so, that's a sucker and should be removed... Re your non-repeating 'New Dawn'..[I'm not seeing 'Albertine' there].. I'll have to answer that later as it's a bit complicated.. but can you tell me please, do you cut this rose back frequently? it looks as though it's hacked back..
@HarryWhite That is typical growth habit for 'Lichfield Angel'.. and there's nothing you can do about it as it's the first flush, but what you will find is that later blooms hold themselves more upright on the bush - less petals. I had it both in the ground and in a large trough pot and backed it with a trellis, allowing the rose to grow to some 5 feet.. so the blooms looked down on me, rather than me looking down on it.. as you are doing at the moment. I'll show some photos later..
@clematisdorset sounds like you’ve had several issues there then. Just keep them well hydrated, maybe prune off the tattier bits, hopefully they will start to pick up.
DA change their pruning advice by the minute so it’s no wonder people get confused and are hesitant to wield the secateurs. I’ve always pruned Austin shrubs according to their old (tried and tested) advice - by a third to a half from after the first flowering season, helps to keep them strong and shapely. Last time I looked they’d changed that to only prune very lightly at first to whack ‘em all down to the same height using a measuring stick regardless of growth or habit - both methods running simultaneously on the website depending on whether you read the printed advice or followed the video 🙄
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Thankyou @Nollie, I did get rather confused about pruning and after reading your comments, I don't feel quite as bad now! yes several issues and changeable weather made monitoring them less easy for me as a beginner. I hope to make things better and hopefully next year the roses will flower well and maybe later this summer.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
@purplerallim I suspect the white blooms on Blue for You are heat induced. Even against a cooler north wall mine are mostly small and rather washed out:

Better blooms, or at least not bullnosed, on Falstaff:
