Gorgeous blooms @Nollie your Oakley Fisher reminds me of my bridge of sighs. Incidentally I think that rose will be my first and beat Desdemona as I can see colour like @newbie77, although I’m still battling the black spot.
@Marlorena, thank you so much for sharing what you grow in your 'shady' area. Very interesting point on not growing HT's there. I will do some research on what you have suggested.
wow @Tack@CatDouch so rose season is officially on in UK..
@JessicaS@Alfie_ lovely Tulips.. mine too giving me a reason to get out into the garden.. other than to kill aphids ofcourse.. My OH was disgusted with the stain on my hands and the squished aphids... Devensis.. Angelique in the background..
@ElbFee did you lose your Louis XIV to frost? I see that the bases of your roses are surrounded by other plants/ bulbs.. don't you have to give some space around them? Its a general question as I have no idea.. Mine are in pots..
Marlorena read my mind @Nollie I was going to ask you the same..i.e if you found MIP and MdS same..? The pictures on HMF looks pretty close as well.. Fragrant rating among MdS vs BdN vs Palais Biron?
Desdemona is looking much bigger this year, especially with that new basal which has shot up to the same height as the rest of the plant.
It's a bit off centre but not as wayward as it appears in this photo (must be the angle) so when it's pruned back eventually it'll round the shrub off nicely.
Those leaves are mahoosive, @pitter-patter. What are you feeding that rose?!😁
Bouquet de la Mariée (bird's eye view) was covered in blackspot when it first started leafing out but now, with regular removal of the dodgy leaves, it's pretty much clean. I also have a video (can't post here) of an army of five or six sparrows flitting between three obelisks and de-aphiding several roses in a frenzy. Wonderful birds. It's a shame some of the rose growers as well as the GCs still sell Roseclear when you just don't need to drench your garden in poison.
And love the forget-me-nots. Mine have had all sorts of lovely colours on tbe same plant this year, not sure why.
And echoing others' comments, the tulips have been outstanding on this thread- Jessica, Ciaran and Alfie's just gorgeous
@cooldoc you are so right. I should leave the area around the rose foot bare. Somehow nature doesn't like bare soil. Something always selfseeds. The roses don't seem to mind though. And it creates lovely combinations with cornflowers, poppies etc. gently leaning on rose flowers. Plus, I get to squeeze in much more plants.
Yes, Louis has a lot of China blood. The late frost killed it.
I just took some photos.. nothing to set the world alight..
'Frilly Cuff'.. this was cut down to almost ground level in winter.. I had to treat early with Vitax sequestered/seaweed in high ph conditions, as it needed a boost.. 'Wild Blue Yonder'.. not a blemish.. ..no grass here, mostly pebble beach.. ..general..
