    @Nollie there was a beetle inside Golden celebration and the petals had holes in them.. now I am kicking myself for not picking them off..

    @Tack Chippendale looks amazing.. shame it does not have a strong scent..

    @Eustace atleast by 2nd year they should have fragrance, isn't it..? My Celine forrestier will be left behind when I move.. same with Rachel (Augusta Luise)..

    @Busy-Lizzie agree with the fragrance on LO.. it has become my new favourite..

    'Lazy balcony shot' and 'just a view' is my kinda views..

    @RosePink I went back to check the date and the first pic was taken on 21st.. mine is at the front of the house (North east aspect) but it has got one more row of pots before the wall (should put all those roses somewhere isn't it).. the temps hit 22 yesterday and today morning I did shake the plant and the petals did not fall off.. my Munstead wood shattered easily in that weather.. not sure what would help.. but keep watered well if its a first year plant.. to be honest the fragrance does not stay true and strong after 3 days.. so may be it's not a bad thing..

    @Liriodendron MW was pretty scented even in first year.. could be the weather or first bloom.. you can post pics here and the rose gurus here would help you out.. be patient for now..

    Thanks @cooldoc.  I brought it inside so OH could see it, and now it's in a vase on the mantelpiece I can definitely smell it...   :)

    @cooldoc Thanks so much for your reply. My Gabriel Oak faces west & in a very sheltered garden so I’m quickly coming to the conclusion that it’s definitely in the wrong place. I’m definitely going to have to consider moving it elsewhere.

    I especially like your 'Twilight Zone'.. @cooldoc
    .. so many roses, what a display against the wall !..

    @dabolem
    When I had 'Midnight Blue' it was darker than that, quite a dark purple..

    @Oliya
    Your Souvenir de St Anne's is gorgeous.. I used to have it, lovely scent don't you think?

    @Eustace
    You had a great day and thanks for all those pics.. I love all the buds, en masse.
    Some missing names for you..
    Those big pink roses.. Rosa rugosa 'Hansa' and Rosa spinosissima 'William III'.... the rose on the wall doesn't look like Charles Rennie,.. maybe Strawberry Hill?..  'The Herbalist' looks to be the pink Austin shrub.. 'The Pilgrim' is the yellow..

    @Busy-Lizzie
    I like your 'Marie Curie'.. I forget where you are sometimes, I think this is in your French garden..

    Thanks @Marlorena for the ids. Yes, I remember seeing the Herbalist name now. That rugosa and spinosissima roses are etched in my memory.

    @Oliya @cooldoc Louise Clements has a nice scent; all I thought was that it was not too strong as advertised. May be when I hear 'very strong', I start comparing with the scent of GJ. It is in it's second season for me.

    Yes @Marlorena, Marie Curie is in my garden in France. We will be back in OH's Norfolk cottage on 12th June. I should get to see the roses in both gardens as the Norfolk ones are later to flower than the French ones. But I have been surprised by the photos on here that there have been so many in flower in the UK, earlier than my roses in France. Maybe because my roses were only planted in the last 2 years.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
