@LateralBreaks You have a good collection of roses.. how many do you have, please?..
Thanks Marlorena.
I wasn't sure how many roses I had (thinking it was just over thirty) but I have them all listed on a spreadsheet on my computer and the answer is 41. I didn't realise it was so many but that's the compulsion of roses!
3 of those I have inherited with the garden and I have no idea what they are. Only one of the others is a David Austin (Wollerton Old Hall). I like Old Garden Roses, strong fragrances, unusual petal colours, and bee friendly flowers, so that's most of what I've bought.
Luckily there isn't room in the garden for many more.
Don't grow up - grow sideways.
Gardening in the West Midlands on a mix of neutral loamy sand & Victorian building rubble.
@newbie77 I used a blend of farmyard manure and mushroom compost as a mulch this spring; I find it quite water retentive.
The Churchill rose Darcey Bussell - flowers are majestically upright like Queen of Sweden. The Macmillan Nurse rose First flower of Gruss an Aachen trapped among the grape vines - not much trace of pink. Our Beth is dainty. Blush Noisette
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
@Alfie_ Your 'Champagne Moment' is a glorious thing, I don't think I've seen one better.. and well done with your cutting.. certainly looks like it.. and that Hollyhock.. wow !.. you'll have a monster there.. fun that your toddler has taken such a keen interest too..
As for my list, I could have done another 50, straight off the bat.. I think it's useful to stick to a certain criteria.. mine was continuity of bloom from late May to late Sept.. which means the rose must be in flower during late June/July.. when too often roses are taking a break.. that gap, irritates me somewhat, in repeat flowering roses...
I accept it in once bloomers, it goes with that territory, but say an Austin, if I get that gap [like Gertrude Jekyll for instance].. then it's not on my list.. Other criteria like rain resistance [Felicia can look more bedraggled in wet than Cornelia].. reasonable disease resistance that doesn't try my patience too much, and a graceful habit [no Munstead Wood I'm afraid].. and capable of holding its own with companion plantings..
Most are from the last 12 years.. I would be here all night if I went back too far, and I've forgotten a lot of them.. Contrary to what some might think, I've only grown 65 Austins down the years..
We should all list our favourite roses, and state what criteria one is using to judge..
..a perfect bloom on 'Boule de Neige'.. I've never grown that rose..
Oh I've just seen some more.. lovely @Eustace gorgeous set of roses.. especially the Churchill, I've been eyeing that one up for some time..
@LateralBreaks Well that's a good start.. actually just a comfortable amount I think, but you've always got room for more.. if I have, then you have, right?..

@Marlorena well maybe I could squeeze a few more in

Amazing blooms everyone.. hard to catch up even if you miss 2 days..
@WAMS my Amazing day was flopping even last year.. the amount of buds and flowers make them bend.. I know what you mean.. their stems are thick unlike Austins, yet they tend to flop on the weight of those petal packed blooms.. this will be even more once it starts raining.. even my sturdiest Henri Delbard could not hold the huge bloom upright..
@newbie77 I loved the colour and fragrance of Evelyn.. Clementina is always in bloom.. quite strong tea, if you like that kinda fragrance.. as a shrub it is quite bare.. so best hide it with some perennials.. How often does JTO produce flushes?
@Eustace as WAMS mentioned, it is Eyes for you.. Love it for the compact size and it blooms all at once.. scent is spicy once fully open and old but can be quite strong some days on a new bloom..
@Marlorena Your Cornelia is fab as always.. I almost got Cornelia (even Felicia) but held back as I read the scent is not strong.. but every time you tempt me with those pics.. Lilac Bouquet is glowing..
@Mr. Vine Eye LOS is amazing in that shot.. does well against that brick wall, and even the scabiosa gives it a good contrast..
@Marlorena - thanks yes it is a wonderful floribunda. I can't take the credit as it was here when we moved in but count myseld lucky for sure. Oh wow I didn't know that criteria was even possible - so all those on your list flower continously from late May to September with no break at all? Are there any other Austins other than LoS, Kew G and Scar. F that take no break? What other floribunda roses do you rate as well as Champ. M (and Lovely Parfuma as you recommended me it?
Gertrude J.. Can't get enough of this.. enjoying while the flush last..
La france.. those buds are massive.. they are not buds.. Probably the way it opens.. slow and steady.. the cold nights make it even longer to open..
Lyda rose.. Bee magnet..
Twice in a blue moon..
Jubilee Celebration..
Fruity Parfuma and Ab-fab..
Elizabeth..
Bring me sunshine..
Stephanie d' Ursel.. love the blooms.. colour changes from buttery yellow to white.. but the tall bare stems are not appealing...
Evelyn..
Chandos beauty..
Amazing you.. new purchase from styles (3 weeks ago).. fragrant, lovely shape and colour.. so far 4/4 hits with this years purchases..(not sure about long term performance)..
Boule de Neige is the perfect rose and that's a beautiful photograph of it, @Discandied. Doesn't it smell gorgeous, too?
@Suesyn beautiful Starlight Symphony. I planted that rose today against a dark purple trellis.
@Alfie_ your Champagne Moment is humongous. What did you feed it? I very rarely get scent from my PAoK.
It is a shame @Fire isn't on here and doing her dahlia thread. I have two out so far- Night Butterfly and Roxy Mignon- and nowhere to upload my poor, out-of-focus photographs of them to.
Thank you, @Cooldoc. I had better support it better so the delicious blooms don't get ruined on the ground.
@JessicaS is your Rose de Cisterciens completely yellow at the moment? If it weren't for the large size and very distinctive fragrance, I would think I had mixed it up with Belle de Jour!
Edit: cooldoc, that's a gorgeous colour on "Amazing You."
