I too took a trip to the garden centre today 😆 I bought a malus royal beauty which I’ve popped out the front, so I can see it from my desk when I’m working from home!
Buds on most of the roses now (other than the newbies) have to say I’m most excited for VdB to bloom!! Little bit of blackspot all ready so popped those leaves off
I did get it WAMS.. a tiny potted specimen in October.. so mine is yet to bloom... the one I missed out this year was 'Purple Lodge'.. well I missed out on so many, but this one was highly recommended by Nollie..
Out of interest has anyone tried pruning and training the sissinghurst way? Where the canes are curved, in theory stressing the plant to produce more flowers. What do you think of this?
Here are some phones from Hever Castle at the beginning of April. I have’t managed to get to Sissinghurst in winter/spring to see the roses without flowers.
@cooldoc if I ever do order from Tuincentrum Lottum, it will be to acquire Nollie's Purple Lodge! And newbie's Versigny. And pitterpatter's Chandos Beauty standard, now Styles have stopped doing it.:)
Hello, @Littlegarden. Lovely that you got A Shropshire Lad before it was discontinued. It always looks so beautiful in pictures.
I haven't looked in here since we left Norfolk on the 27th to stay with friends on our way back to my house in France. There were 103 unread posts! We are now with my daughter near Poitiers who now has over 120 roses, was over 100 when I last saw her! Her first roses have opened, Canary Bird and The Albrighton Rambler.
That was sooo slow to load that I don't think I'll send any more. Their Internet is very slow. We go home to Dordogne tomorrow. I hope my roses are doing OK, I haven't seen them since January.
I have Felicia @Alfie, she's two, I'm looking forward to seeing how she is tomorrow.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
@Alfie_ Yours is looking good for a young plant, bit of patience needed, it'll soon develop.. 'Felicia' is one of those almost perfect roses, delicious scent, good foliage, continuous bloom, albeit the flowers are on the small side, but it produces so many.. and to top it all you will notice it's virtually thornless as it grows, just a few at the base..
Like most roses it can look bedraggled after a summer thunderstorm, but we should forgive it for that..
@Littlegarden Yes it's an exaggerated form of pegging... it produces good results but if I'm honest, I'm not keen on the look and it's time consuming and fiddly.. I prefer more natural growth habit with gentle pegging of the shoots, rather than the somewhat trendy fashion now for semi to full circles.. but, if you have the time.. Thanks for showing photos from Hever, a lovely garden I've visited a few times..
Your Banksia will be looking great very soon won't it.. I had thought it might be flowering by now but everything has got a bit late again..
@WAMS - are you not near me in Luton? You can easily aquire a Chandos from Harkness' centre in Hitchin. I've never really looked into standards but I know they have them there and would be very surprised if they didn't have CB. They had about 40 established (20L pot) CB shrub roses for sale when I went last year.

My roses have been neglected, but here are a couple of photos.
Shropshire lad, showing some bright leaves.
Banksiae, which only flowers once but has thrived on neglect. I am planning on pruning it once it has flowered.
