@pitter-patter 3 years in a garden life is not that long It was well worth the effort. True, you need acid soil, same with rhododendrons. Maybe in a pot?
Some truly gorgeous roses on this thread. I was beginning to think mine would not open! Yesterday my first to open was Tottering-by-Gently. It is in a shady part but does get some early morning and afternoon sun. It definitely seems more shade-tolerant than others though it is single-flowered.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
It's a beauty, @clematisdorset. One for next bareroot season for me I hope
Thanks all for input on spraying and opinions on different varieties and disease resistant thereof!
Adam Messerich emerged some time yesterday A hot Barbie pink rose with a peppery nautical Grandad scent. I really like it! Pretty healthy too. Again, the neighbour's acanthus keeps popping up under it, so I am hoping it can withstand the underground incursions.
Going to take the family later to visit a friend but really to see her newly-arrived Dannahue rose 😁
I’m loving looking at everyone’s roses, they’re all so beautiful and it makes me think I need more. Here are a few of my mine that are in bloom, my 3 new ones have buds but are still small at the moment.
The Pilgrim which is covered in black spot but loads of flowers and buds
Sun casting a lovely glow on on of the flowers
Mary Delaney, I like the colour of the stems on this rose
Eustacia Vye has been in a shady spot and was getting quite leggy so I’ve moved it as I wondered if it was reaching for the sun? It’s only it’s second year so hopefully it will fill out as I love it.
Foxgloves I grew last year from the freebie Gardeners World seeds
A pot would be fine, I already have a rhododendron in one. I just need to find a very scented variety…
Loderi (a grex that includes a number of cultivars) but rather large). Pink fading to white. Snow Queen, medium size. Pink buds fading to white/ Lavender Girl. medium. delicate lavender pink. Rh. Cubitii. Pale pink. Tender. I grow one in a 40cm diameter shallow pot. Fragantissimum (and a whole range of relatives). pale pink/whitw) also tender but rather an untidy habit.
Unless you include deciduous azaleas. Then the world is your oyster.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand. "Have nothing in your garden that you don't know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."
Think I counted 6 buds on it now, which is exciting!!
All these photos of desdemona have definitely sold me on it, going to get a few for the left side of the garden, I’m going for a more formal look for that border, very different for me 😆
City of York is looking really lovely at the moment, very much tarting up the front of the house
Loads of blooms on eyes for you
And first bloom on mary delany with many more to come! Also smelling absolutely beautiful

Me too, I really love the look of Desdemona, definitely one for my list 😄
Lovely, thank you, @zugenie! Looks as though BMS is growing well and is healthy this time for you. Also loved the progress of the Petit Prince, ElbFee.
I think this thread ruined Desdemona for me. The pictures were *so* beautiful that I was really underwhelmed with it when I saw it in real life.
A couple of quick snaps of raindrops on roses... though hopefully some people with proper cameras will be along with nicer shots soon. Blue for You, Rachel, Winchester C, MW.
