  • Many of the young people I worked with found that mouse-cancelling headphones really reduced their stress levels when they were out and about in busy places.
It's not the mouses that bother me! 😉

I do have NC headphones, but they are large on-ear things, so do look very conspicuous.  I try not to draw attention to the problem as I have noticed a couple of members of staff deliberately make the alarms sound when they see me jump in fright. 😕  (I've just been out for a walk.  A loose dog came running up to me at speed barking loudly.  I called to the owner to retrieve it and got a load of "get over yourself, you shouldn't be out in the park (I was on the perimeter pavement that leads across the top by the road between housing and town), it's being friendly, stupid cow", etc, on and on.  🙁  People have no idea how distressing up close, loud noises at unpredictable, uncontrollable intervals can be.)

My local Bakewell Co-op has mind-numbing music blasting out all day.  I suspect that it is designed to numb the mind ...

Imagine the effect on the staff doing all-day shifts! 😱

One of the shopping malls in town has the Christmas music turned up to 11!

A post on TripAdvisor from a clearly knowledgeable visitor from across the pond.  "I understand they have a video of the Battle of Bannockburn".  Hum, unlikely.

Our new street tree has arrived. The crown starts at about shoulder level and The pavement isn't that wide so I hope the trunk grows up soon.
It's some sort of betula. There's a mature one further up the road so I'm hoping this one will survive too. It's close enough to water if necessary in the summer - another job🙄 The ones further up and down the road will have to fend for themselves.
I wish the council would leaflet The local area to encourage The locals to look after their trees. Several have been planted in the area - probably a wasted of money and effort.

The bog brush sycamore is losing thick chunks of  bark so I don't think it's long for this world. I suspect the squirrels might have been helping the process along.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • A squirrel came prospecting to the garden today. They live in the forest a couple of fields away but rarely make it this far as there is no cover.
It spotted the bird feeder and climbed the pole, but my dog, who was watching from the window, declared it a non-bird and barked excitedly.
Squirrel departed at high speed and will hopefully decide this is not a safe place to live. My birds will be glad that it still is safe for them :)

On a positive note it was only Famous Grouse not a decent single malt.
  • 😂
  • We have spent most of the day in the garden. I  managed to get some more bulbs planted   we planted up the pots and other containers weeks ago, but I had some more camassias, and some narcissi for naturalisation.  We couldn't get them in the ground before as everything else was still growing.
