Good afternoon all. Back in Lux. We left a very sunny London only to get back to the grey skies here. Our week in England went well including our trip down to Highcliffe, it was a horrendous journey because of a landslip near Hook, so since we had to be there for FiL 90th, we decided to go by bus instead. Errr .... 9 hours' journey all together.
Still, we managed to be with him. Poor dad he is not well at all (he has dementia) and his wife who is 80 is really struggling but doesn't want to hear about a home for him. They do get daily help, but the situation is becoming unsustainable as none of the children live near.
I am so sorry to hear about your friend @Lizzie27. A friend of mine never told me that her cancer had returned and I lost her 3 years ago. She was only 61, how could I possibly not have noticed that she was ill again? She stayed with us for a week (about a year before she died) full of life and never said a word.
Thanks @coccinella. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. We think our friend was 80 something or thereabouts but we thought she had heart trouble not a lung problem the last time we met up.
Glad you enjoyed your holiday but how on earth did it take 9 hours by bus to get to Highcliffe - or did that include the return journey as well? Presumably the weather was horrible at the time, judging by the landslip. Elderly parents are a worry, aren't they, especially with dementia. One of our relatives has just had to go into a Home as his wife can't cope any more.
Evening all from snowy France, very deep and crisp and even.
I'm still glowing from time with Charlie and his friends, such lovely boys, and very appreciative of my efforts. Such a pleasure to cook for healthy appetites. Wonderful to see them playing chess together, bantering and teasing each other. One has been set on the path of entering Oxford or Cambridge university, extremely bright, but still very modest and amiable.
They're hoping to get a weekend of skiing in, one lives in the mountains, so I might not see Charlie this weekend if he goes up to his friend's house. Happy for Charlie though.
Enjoying seeing the enthusiasm of youth, as many of you have experienced, growing old and watching others suffer is no fun.
Stay safe all, warm hugs to everyone.

My son in Périgueux and my daughter near Libourne, SW France have sent me photos of their snow. My house is between the two so I expect my French garden is covered in snow.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Grey and frosty here. All the hellebores are in full bloom, quite early this year.
Yes all together the journey took 9 hours from southeast London! We could only spend 2 hours there which was enough as he was exhausted just by having us there.
Sunny Day here. I had a phone call from my lovely Dr this morning see how I’m feeling. I could hardly get a sentence out because of my breathless condition, so she pointed out that for the blood thinners to work I need to exercise.😳. Can hardly breath to speak, let alone move.
So - when Hubby went to town for shopping I rode along because at least I move with the car/swerves etc. Since we got home I’m trying to get up every now and then and swing my arms around between little steps. So irritating.
At least Pixel decided that a silent conversation with me from the next lounge chair might be helpful. 😂

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

How lovely @didyw. I'd love to be there.
Keep safe.

Not quite as frosty out there as last night … so far anyway.
