Horrible outside.  Talk of whether leaving weeds to provide ground cover rather than having bare earth, on another thread, made me feel guilty as my veg patch has precisely that.  But no chance of getting out there to get them up and provide a nice thick mulch instead.
Glad you had a nice lunch and a bit of a walk yesterday @Busy-Lizzie.  I'm also feeling guilty for not getting as much exercise as I should.  Have been taking the car into town for shopping/meetings rather than walking in this horrible weather.
Keep looking after yourself @Pat E.
Hope you are having a better day @D0rdogne_Damsel and you get good news on the house soon.
OH still has the last vestiges of the sore throat, cough and cold he (and many others) picked up at the New Years Day wine and cheese do we went to.  But I seem to (touch wood) have escaped and I am thanking the vitamin D I've been taking every day since @punkdoc said we all should.  I also take B12 and turmeric.

    Hi all

Sitting in the hospital, waiting for more tests, I am so bored.

Hi @punkdoc :) I would post a mug of coffee 'emoji' for you, but for some reasons I can't do that on my laptop today ... only on my phone ... and I'm sitting under my laptop at the moment ...

Poor Punkdoc, not much fun at all, but still pleased to hear from you, always get worried when any of the regulars don’t post for a while. Do you have a friend with a terrier to invite for a visit, to help with the rat problem?
Had an appointment at the hospital yesterday, seen on time, and very thorough and friendly specialist nurse. Unfortunately, none of the non invasive options for my problem are working, so surgery is the only option. Not in a rush for that, fortunately, as waiting list is at least 8 to 12 months.
Actually a nice day here today. Had a decent walk, muddy underfoot, but plenty of sun.

I took advantage of the dry weather today to collect my mid-Winter bonus - the last of the beetroot and volunteer spuds from last year's French bean patch. The spuds were from the previous year and are a mix of unremembered varieties. The beetroot will get pickled this afternoon.

The blackbirds will get a bonus too as I found a bucket of apples in the garage which never made it into cider and have spread around for them.

We have been to Norwich Hospital for OH's lung function tests. I'm not sure why as last year they were excellent. They said they were a follow up.

We took the park and ride. OH parked the car in the disabled parking where we caught the bus. When we came back the bus stopped at 2 places in the car park. Everyone had got out and the driver told us to. We said that we wanted to go to the stop where we got on as OH's car was in the disabled parking there. The driver said that was only a stop for getting on not for getting off and he would get into trouble if he took us there so we had to get off. It was almost further than OH could walk and he was in pain. The driver should have told us as the other stop was nearer. Why have a disabled parking there if they wouldn't take you back to it? I was furious.

    Hello folks,

No wonder you are fuming @Busy-Lizzie, I would have been as well, some of these Park and Ride sites are vast. Hope OH doesn't ache too much tomorrow.

It's actually been dry and sunny here for a change but with rather a cold blustery wind. Took the car right across town up to the big Sainsbury's with the Argos dept to collect some things I'd ordered. Nearly got blown over in the carpark! I also stopped off to collect some halogen bulbs I needed for the new floor lamp which Argos hadn't got in stock.

Shame you've got to have an op as well @Ergates, but needs must I suppose. Hopefully by then the NHS might have started to sort itself out.

Hope the tests results are ok @Punkdoc, I agree, the waiting around can be very tiresome.

@didyw, I didn't catch OH's recent cold either, much to my surprise and I am putting that down to the multi-vits I started taking several months ago. I can't persuade OH to take them though.

Finished my rose pruning this afternoon, only did half an hour outside but it did me good and now I feel quite virtuous! Lots of bulbs are showing through.

    Afternoon all.

Another example of thoughtless arrangements/lack of consideration for less mobile people there @Busy-Lizzie. Annoyed for you. Let’s hope the op is just round the corner now.

Busy day doing some DIY at Dad’s. One window has been leaking and hasn’t noticed until the awful wind/rain combo this week.  Why do all DIY jobs start a cascade of other little jobs/ tidying/cleaning 😡
Bit sad to see him not manage jobs around the house any more.

Well Friday is here again. Have a lovely weekend all. Very cold next week. I’m hoping we don’t have snow, but it looks forecast for a bit higher up the valley.

  • Evening all,

@Busy-Lizzie, it's disgraceful that such a system could even be in place, I absolutely understand why you'd be feeling furious.

@punkdoc, Ratty seems to be causing you an awful lot of stress, I really hope it can be resolved soon.

@AuntyRach, it is sad to see the decline, I really feel for you and your dad.

My friend's mum died suddenly the week before Christmas, very unexpected, and sadly her step dad died today, couldn't cope without her. My friend has a 9 year old son and is extremely upset about the loss of two grandparents so close together. Life is so hard sometimes.

I'm happy to be reunited with Charlie this evening, but he has worries of his own. Trivial in the grand scheme of things, but he's worried that some of his friends don't get along and he's a bit of a piggy in the middle. Also, he's concerned about his dad, so, so socially inept, he doesn't want to be seen out with him.... A big juggling act, emotionally and practically. I'm trying to be supportive, without criticising his dad, but I so understand his feelings on the matter.

Luckily, Charlie is very committed to his school work, his running and his passion for Formula 1, so I'm hoping he can get past all these worries. He's planning on keeping his head down, probably best course of action.

Still no news from the bank, the bean counters are doing their thing....

Noticed the evenings are getting a tiny bit lighter... spring is on its way, thank goodness.

Best wishes to all. An especially big hug for @Hostafan1 although I do appreciate there's a lot of us on here that equally need a big hug. If only a hug could fix all our woes.

@D0rdogne_Damsel - a hug might not fix a woe, but the meaning behind the hug can be very comforting and impactful 💖

Just making my new favourite tea/infusion called ‘sleep’ - it has passionflower, spiced apple, camomile and vanilla.
