Not sure what to do with myself right now. House all prepped for Christmas, presents wrapped, food all organised. But daughter and SIL have car problems and are stuck at home waiting for breakdown services. Thankfully, they are safe and warm at home, not at the side of the motorway, but I can’t see an outcome that will get them here today, or maybe even tomorrow. What a bore. A lot worse off than us, but I was looking forward to a family get together after three years. Grrrr!
  • Good afternoon,  sounds like those who are entertaining are either ready or nearly so, we are in the latter category   we still have a bit to do. Hopefully the water, power, and temperamental cars are all OK.
Enjoy yourselves,  see you on the other side.

we did our friends and family visiting last weekend, so this weekend we'll be home on our own. Went to the village this morning to collect the beef forerib (not a whole one) we're having for lunch tomorrow. I've made some bread, just waiting for it to prove, then I'll be officially 'done' and taking it easy for a few days.

Hope you all have a lovely Christmas and thanks, guys, for being nice people and friends to have this year. Hope Hosta is doing OK. ((hugs)) to everyone with Christmas worries. See you in a few days  :)

Back from the carol service at my home village. Hubby wasnt feeling well so stayed home. I wasn't really in the mood for it but a standing room only in a village church raising the rafters was enough to get me in the spirit!
A quiet night and just the two of us tomorrow as we've already hosted one Christmas dinner and we will have more over boxing day.
@Ergates I hope your plans don't get completely scuppered and your family can find a way of getting to you.
Also thinking of @AnnaB and your family! I hope you manage to have a wonderful Christmas and your water situation gets sorted asap!
Sending very best wishes to you all and thank you for your companionship..... Best wishes and a very merry Christmas everyone. X

Thank you all so much for your kind words and thoughts. Glad to report that around mid morning water slowly trickled out of the kitchen tap! We watched in great glee as the power slowly built up and hastily filled the kettle just in case. We dashed down to the village shop for my newspaper, a couple of dozen fresh farm eggs, an iceberg lettuce and a card for g/son and were greeted by many local joyous faces, who were all talking about their water supply and not a word being said until good wishes as we were leaving. (I won two raffle prizes which was unexpected but lovely, I resisted the mince pies and mulled wine on offer!)
@Dovefromabove as soon as the big freeze started we turned the field water pipe stop cock off to save any possible bursts. Water was delivered twice daily to the horses via quad and trailer and three dustbins. Once the thaw came we opened up a third field to them with a new 'bite' of grass which they would rather eat than dry hay given the option, plus another large round hay bale to keep them going. Over the last four days they have only used half of their large water tank thanks to the extra grass. This afternoon daughter half turned the stop cock back on and walked the pipe across the fields to check for leaks, on reaching the tank it had filled so she returned and turned the stop cock off again. She will repeat this for a few days just in case the pipe or any of its 'joiners' decide to give out. So all back to normal house and field wise once again.

I hope any of you not feeling 100% soon feel better, those of you with transport problems soon get things sorted and those of you expecting family and/or friends have a wonderful time.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year, with special hugs for Hosta.
