Trying to have a relaxing day, but keep seeing things that could do with dusting or putting away. Seems never ending. I’m trying to look round with a fresh eye to avoid such faux pas as not seeing a big ball of dust which would inevitably make an appearance like tumbleweed.
Ive put a photo of my hanging basket on the baubles thread, not much finesse so don’t get excited!
All these lovely food pictures and descriptions are making me hungry. I’ve just eaten a bought mince pie with my coffee, celebratory food starts tomorrow when the first guests are scheduled to arrive.

Night all.  Our son is coming down tomorrow, so not so much time on my iPad I guess. 🙄

Evening Everyone. I survived the week!!

I didn’t have lunch as too busy so going to have some bacon and eggs for tea (just fancy it!) and I’ll then read back on the last couple of days on here.

I hope all journeys, baking, present wrapping etc goes well for everyone.

  • Well the shopping is complete   but we came back at lunchtime,  there was a power cut,  so after a quick bagel for lunch we went out again . We left the fridge shopping in a cold bag with some ice blocks in it rather than loading up the fridge at that point. The OH was worried when we came back again as the timer lights weren't on , but we realised that they needed resetting as the power had been out for nearly 2 hours. Let's hope that it now, some years ago we had a cut on Christmas morning,  luckily it came back just in time.

Cant see the whale in @Pat E 's second picture but I do see two little eyes looking out from between the 'covers'? Have a lovely time with your son Pat.
Hope your daughter's back improves soon @didyw , nothing worse than a badly crooked up back at any time, even more awful just now.
Have a wonderful Christmas break @punkdoc you and Moira deserve it. Will send strong demanding thoughts to those 'up above' to send down some snow for you.
First guests arriving tomorrow @Ergates - how many more are you expecting? Merry Christmas to you all however many arrive.
Daughter staggered home from with together with a few last minute shopping bits. Went off to chop up a couple of loads of logs and then left again to pop over the mountain to Ex's farm to chat over the arrangements for a Christmas meal there on Christmas day (before our family arrive here). She said that when she gets back she will feed the dogs, climb into bed and not get up again until she wakes in the morning. I laughed and pointed out that the dogs will probably have her up needing a pee and/or wake her by barking at the hooting owls that they need to protect us from! I'm expecting her back any minute now so we shall see how the night turns out.
Oh, still no water and now looks like none for Christmas either.  :D

@AnnaB if just like to wish you and your family well for Christmas and New year. I grew up in a village in the country where we were used to being resilient and resourceful.... Despite the occasional difficulty it's still the happiest I've been and now I'm stuck livening in an ugly city I miss it terribly!  Best wishes to you and yours x

@AuntyRach... Glad you got through it all!!!! Put your feet up and enjoy your bacon! Best wishes to you x

Your water situation @AnnaB! That must be really inconvenient - I hope it is sorted ASAP.

Everyones food and baking is sounding good. @Dovefromabove’s tiramisu is taking my fancy in particular.

I haven’t done any cakes or biscuits this year, but MIL has done some mince pies (with orange pastry- so good!) and chocolate cakes for us. Tomorrow I’ll cook a big ham but I forgot to buy an extra apple juice to cook it in, so I’ll have to improvise somehow 🤔

We will probably suggest that Dad stays home as he still very under the weather and my sister’s household is full of colds. It’s a difficult one as we don’t want him to be on his own, but we also don’t want to give him any germs. Our Plan B is we all stay in own homes and take it in turns to do him ‘meals on wheels’ (like we did in the infamous 2020 lockdown xmas).

Take care everyone and enjoy the festive weekend if you are partaking.

Evening all, everyone appears to be very busy and getting organised. I feel for @AnnaB though with no water, that is a pain.

My daughter arrived safely this afternoon, an hour earlier than expected and had a good journey up from Devon which is a relief. However my DIL has just phoned to tell us she has broken her left wrist whilst ice skating with the kids on Wednesday. She went to A&E this morning when it was evident she'd done it and said they were brilliant. The plaster's got to stay on for 4-6 weeks and meanwhile she can't drive or cook Christmas dinner (she's left handed). My son who's still feeling rough with this nasty virus has had to finish the shopping today and she says they'll muddle through. Fortunately both kids are quite good cooks and her mum lives nearby. So we're still going down after Xmas unless there's problems.

That's a difficult situation with your Dad @AuntyRach but I think you're wise to suggest he stays at home and just has quick visits from family. He'll probably benefit from some peace and quiet between visits and have a quiet snooze.

We're just drinking coffee and have opened the chocolates - Xmas has begun in this household. Have a good time all.

Morning all. I agree with the cloud shapes identified by you all, but I see the poodle and a long dragon on the second one. I’m very hot.can’t please me lately.

Our son arrived and is pleased with the various birthday presents that were waiting for him. 😉. Let’s hope he also likes the Christmas presents he’ll get tomorrow.🤭
