Saw a couple of fun cloud shapes while sitting on the veranda

it got very hot out there today. We were glad to move inside. 🤔. Can’t pick it.

    Good morning all 😊 ☕️
    That second one is definitely a whale @Pat E 🐳 😊
Glad you have some water at least @AnnaB … difficult situation … I think the water repair folks are very stretched. We have a leak around the corner here … they’ve dug a huge hole … there are traffic lights in the road … they keep sending us updates. It was going to be finished on the 19th … now they’re saying they hope to finish it today 🤞. So far we’ve not lost water pressure as I think they’ve been able to put a ‘bypass pipe’ in.  We are so used to not having to worry about water aren’t we?  I hope all is back to normal for you very soon. 🤞

This morning I’m heading out to the farm shop and butcher to pick up our Red Poll beef and veg. Then I’ll make a coffee and hazelnut ‘tiramisu’ and a fish pie for Christmas Eve when my son and OH’s mum will be with us …

    Good morning all.

Sounds a bit of a nightmare without water @AnnaB, though you sound pretty organised.

We are still without phone and Internet, though my mobile phone works. There is a junction box in the next village, all smashed up, looks as though a car has driven into it.

A busy day today. I will pack the car to go to son's. The presents, crackers, some groceries are all in the children's guest room. Some, such as the hampers I made up for my children, are quite heavy. I must pack my suitcase and make sure my long skirt still fits.

Cooking to do, sausage rolls, chicken and mushroom tartlets, devils on horseback. We have finger foods on Christmas Eve evening.

It's a long drive to son in Burgundy.

    Hi all
We are off for a few days tomorrow, hotel in the Lakes. We will be joined for Christmas Eve dinner by BIL and his partner.
It looks like we might get snow on Christmas Day, which would be lovely.

    good morning to all
mummy's darling arrived safe and sound last night. Very appreciative of my vegan cooking efforts, he scoffed the ribollita in no time. 😀

do post a pic of your hanging basket Ergates , it will inspire me to not be so lazy in this season. I have a couple of heavy pots to move and this is when visiting sons are useful.
Your veggies look great @Allotment Boy, essentials for Christmas lunch.
@Pat E First one looks like a small dog with a big head and wagging tail. I agree with @Dovefromabove that the second is a whale.
@AnnaB I hope you have had a restful sleep after sending daughter to work. Sorry about the burst pipes, it looks though that the community spirit is working.

Best wishes to all. Be calm, be safe

  • Morning everyone,  heavy rain and still quite dark outside. It's no comfort to you @AnnaB, but there are reports of burst pipe all over the SE too, hope you get back on soon.
We have to go to collect our pre ordered Turkey and the rest of our food  shopping . Hope everyone's plans go well.

Morning everyone. Another dull, damp, misty start to the day. Hope the heavier rain holds off until I’ve been to the hairdresser.
What a palaver regarding the water pipes, @AnnaB. I do hope they have you all up and running properly very soon. We take water on tap so much for granted, don’t we?
Interesting cloud formations @Pat E. The first one looks like the face of a poodle to me and the second looks like a dragon ( though I can see the whale shape now @Dovefromabove mentions it).
Our Christmas meat delivery will be sometime today and then that’s all the food stuff bought ready for Sunday.

Loving the pics of Christmassy cup cakes. Dundee cake and mince pies - much better for me than the real thing as I am not so tolerant of the gluten in cake, bread and pastry these days. (I do succumb - but have to have the Rennies to hand later).
Impressive sprouts @Allotment Boy and those parsnips will be lovely now they've had a frost on them.

I admire your resilience in the face of adversity @AnnaB - hope you do get your water back before Christmas.

You sound very organised @Busy-Lizzie - hope the long drive is uneventful!

How lovely if you get snow @punkdoc - sounds like you are in for a smashing Christmas in the Lakes.

We picked up the turkey from a local farm yesterday and delivered it to my daughter's (her OH is the cook).  But found her in bed with a bad back.  Something had gone ping the day before and she was in pain.  She had planned on going into Norwich with our 2 granddaughters but could hardly move but hopeful she could do it today.  Poor thing - she has had hardly any time to do Christmas shopping - had to go into school at the beginning of the week to show potential new Teaching Assistants around (and provide her input into who was offered the job, as the TA will be working with her) so her days, as is so often the case, got eaten up with work.

Managed to find gelatine leaves in our local Co-op but most of our food shopping is done in the lovely independent shops we have here.  Huge queues in the deli but we've got a nice selection of cheeses.  If you come across Suffolk Blue - thoroughly recommend it! (And Baron Bigod of course).

OH just nipping out - must take the opportunity to wrap his presents...
