Did you do the walk [O's Dyke] in stages @Arthur1? I wouldn't have thought there were palaces to stay overnight. I know it's a long way. Lovely pix The distance walks up here [W.Highland Way, Great Glen Way] can be done by staying in various B&Bs/hotels etc, although some folk camp. That's a really hard shift, carrying everything.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

No palaces! but plenty of b&b's. 14 days in total. A real eye opener, made me realise there's so much that I haven't seen. Would love to do one of Scotlands long distance walks, on my bucket list.
Faces in things...we were out walking in Friston Forest (near Exceat and Cuckmere Haven - I think I've posted pics near there already) and saw this witch coming out of the ground.
@steveTu, that really is spooky 😮. Some lovely walking there, we often park at Exceat and walk along the Cuckmere to the cliffs then walk along the tops before cutting back inland just before Birling Gap then into Friston forest and back to Exceat, mainly in the winter as it's too busy for us in the summer.
Welcome @BeeCee! I wonder how many times you can fit Luxembourg inside Canada!
Beautiful and inspiring pics everybody, keep them coming.
I am looking into a trip to Scotland in May. Start from Glasgow up to Oban and on to the isle of Mull to see the Puffins (all by trains and buses). Tips gratefully received.
We tend to either park at Butcher's Hole (where do they get these names from?) in the forest, Birling Gap or Crowlink by Friston church. I know what you mean about the winter though - Birling gap is insane during the summer, unless you go late evening (watching the sun go down toward Cuckmere can be stunning - my avatar is from there). And we usually get to Friston to see the autumnal changes.
Cuckmere Haven seems very popular in summer...
...but that area is stunning eh?
But all areas in Britain are grand eh? We went down to Bodmin (my sis used to live in Lifton, near Launceston) to relive some walks I did with my then [edited] to be [edited] wife. The Hurlers and Cheesewring at The Minions on Bodmin...
May is a good time to visit Scotland in general @coccinella, as the weather is often very nice during that month. Bring every piece of warm and waterproof clothing you have though I've not been to Mull, although I'd like to do the Munro there, but it's quite complicated because of the timings/driving distance etc. @Liriodendron used to make the journey by bus to Oban, from the north of England, for getting across to the island she had a cottage on, so she might be able to direct you a bit with that. A serious slip of the fingers there @Arthur1 The WHW has plenty of places [ ] to stay depending on how many days you decide to take for doing it. 7 is the usual. Avoid the summer if you can - the infamous midge can make it miserable on many of the stages. We did it split in two halves- in 2x 3 day sections -April and October, which meant a couple of much longer days, because my children were quite young and I couldn't get their dad to take them for a whole week. It's not really my thing though. Much prefer hills, and there aren't many sections where it's even a semi hill walk. There are lots of sites with all the info, including links for the very useful folk who collect your gear and take it to your next stopping point. I'll see if I can find one of the sites for you.
here you are - everything you'll need https://www.westhighlandway.org/ If you want - you could nip up Dumgoyne which is early on in the route. It's only an hour or two, depending on whether you visit the distillery first....
