  • Morning all,

Arrived back in the UK safe and sound, not without incident, long delays at Corfu airport, overwhelmed with arrivals and departures and not enough space/manpower. After being left on the tarmac for over an hour one poor lady fainted and fell badly. My friend is a nurse and of course we went to help, a long time waiting for assistance too. All fine in the end, but not a great start to our journey home. Also stuck in delays at Stansted for shuttle bus. Luckily, I was only going to local hotel but my friends didn't end up getting home until 10:30 last night when really they should have been home by 7pm. The joys of travelling....

I'm now on a train to Cambridge, again disruption because of train strike, but I'm assured I'll get back later too.

My other friend who had her hip operation on Monday is home and feeling absolutely fine. Reassuring for those soon to have the op.

    Good day all,

Ooh forgot, love the picture @Hostafan1

Your return seemed much more civilized @Dovefromabove. Glad you had a lovely holiday.

Enjoy France @Allotment Boy. Bonne vacances.

That's 3 minutes drive from OH's daughter @Nanny Beach, I'll tell her to look out for it.

    Snap, @Hostafan1

I bought it for Moira a few years ago, it hangs in the bathroom, and you can see it in the mirror when you are doing your ablutions.

Hello folks  :D  We've been home about three hours ... a good journey and the countryside looked glorious again ... now we're unpacked, the washing machine is chuntering, and pile of post  has been dealt with.

We called in at the farm where I was born, but the farm shop was closed.  There was a chap loading some stuff from a shed into the van.  He said that the shop had closed down ... the farmer had died earlier in the year.  He was about a year younger than me.   :(  He was a tenant farmer so the business was closed down.  I wonder what will happen to it.

As we couldn't shop there we called in at our local farm shop and butcher ... we've got some pork chops for tomorrow ... an oxtail,  minced beef, neck of lamb for a hotpot and some sausages.  Also free range eggs, frozen salmon, a swede, carrots, potatoes and leeks, milk and bread.  With what we have in the freezer we're not going to starve.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Afternoon all, it's been another brilliant sunny and warm day, although I'm not sure whether or not we had a slight tough of frost early on, either that or it was very heavy dew!

My shoulder seems better today thank goodness so been doing some gentle and some not so gentle gardening whilst the weather is good. Decided to prune the climbing roses whose very long narrow canes were waving about on top of the rose arches. OH cut both lawns which have both regenerated after the drought without assistance from us.

Sorry you had such a trying journey home @D0rdogne_Damsel. Enjoy pottering about in Cambridge and do hope you get your return train back.

Much easier to holiday in this country isn't it @Dovefromabove. What a shame about the closed farm shop although it sounds like you've stocked up well. I've only got a smallish fridge/freezer but have been thinking about getting a small chest freezer so I can store more food, question is, where to put it? No room in the kitchen or porch.

@didyw I find that places which you remember as being only a short walk often turn out to be much longer than anticipated. Still, think of it as calories expended - oops, you had coffee and cake didn't you! So that didn't work.

Love the cow pictures Hosta and Punkdoc.
