    Nice work @Mr. Vine Eye
I wanted to do the pair of GdF this weekend but I will hold off. They are forecasting frost.
I survived Guirlande although the canes got constantly stuck in my hair . But GdF is also a devil in disguise

Maybe just some defoliation work on Pink Cloud. Decided to give it one year additional and if again a mildew mess it will be shovel pruned next year.

btw if I look at the prices DA bareroots UK , I ‘ m falling of my chair.🪑
i was already complaining that I had to pay 17€ ( a DA from Lens)
but they had Scentimental and TCL did not.

  • A very basic question, but can I prune my established roses, English shrub roses and climbers, when a mild frost is due?
  • @Super gardener - was wondering that myself two weeks ago, an exact min temp for pruning - couldn’t find definitive answer, but did find the rough number -2 or higher, fine. Lower than that no.

But depends on the microclimate of your garden too.

If in doubt I’d air on the side of caution. Glad I did two weeks ago as it ended up being much much colder than originally forecast. -2 turned into -5

There is an old thread about it. I tend to wait until end of February or March because of the risk of frosts here.

I would find that over cautious for our temperate maritime climate in the UK, any cuts you make soon harden over.    I can't say I've ever worried about it, so I prune whenever I feel like it..

Just a heads up for Burncoose in Cornwall.  I ordered a couple of plants on Wednesday, and they were delivered yesterday, Friday..  a rapid turnaround.. They do sell roses, quite a nice selection too, around 12.50 each..  not sure if they're bare root or potted..

  • Thank you for advice- I don’t think I’ve ever worried about it before but had forgotten what to do this time around- long covid brain fog 😫

Some winged insect on one of my roses..  I'm not sure I know what this is actually..

  • @Marlorena - is it not an adult aphid?

I cut off an infestation of black ones while pruning Gabriel Oak. Also smushed several on Bathsheba and Lady of the Lake as both of those have leaves showing already.
