Gorgeous, @pitter-patter... mine are in hanging baskets but Tommy looks stunning in that pot of yours! I have so far sown cosmos, sweet peas, hollyhocks and some delphiniums that will allegedly flower in the first year (I am sceptical but we'll see!). My black pansies seem to have finally died after a good couple of years so will sow some more of those, too. Have a few other seed packets to start (statice, white marigolds, antirrhinums, etc) but am already running out of windowsill space thanks to some colossal idiot ordering far too many dahlias.🤨
I fear I've lost quite a few lifted salvias in the greenhouse. Still got amistad some little cutting growing. Also got salvia verticillata alba (new ) which I think is the same as white rain to plant in the front garden . I've never took to shrubby salvias for some reason .
It is a very nice colour of pelargonium that Pitter patter
I was just thinking about my diascia. It probably hasn’t survived the cold. It did survive last winter and made a tall and floriferous plant. I’ve tried taking cuttings, but was unsuccessful. I’m really curious to see what plants will return this year.
Achillea has done very well in the heat las year, it reflowered quickly after cutting back and stayed shorter. They usually get very floppy in my garden. I don’t have much luck growing phlox, though I keep buying buying them. Do they grow easily for you, @Marlorena. Maybe this year will be the year of the phlox!
Hi @Marlorena...never again! I've just spent the best part of 3 hours digging up my 'Tuscany Superb'...probably the hardest 3 hours I've ever spent in the garden, completely exhausting...the upshot is I'm left with the roots you see in the photo. As my local park have offered to take it off my hands and replant it in their rose garden do you think there is sufficient root there for it still to be viable. Many thanks.
@pitter-patter That's a lovely Achillea.. is it 'Summerwine' ? those are what I've got.. can you believe I've never grown them before..
Yes I love Phlox, I have some 7 or 8 varieties.. I lost some last autumn due to downsizing the garden, so I'm restocking a bit.. no trouble growing them here, and I can't think of any I don't like.. hummingbird moths go for them which is fun to watch..
Your Diascia looks like Diascia personata, is that right? that's the one I've got.. Diascia rigescens is more tender and a bit floppier..
@peteS Yes plenty of root there, keep it moist until transplanting time.. what a shame you had to dig it up, you'd have got lots of nice blooms on it this summer.. I probably wouldn't even cut that back much but wait until after flowering.. still, up to them what they do with it.. nice they're taking it off your hands though..
I'm now looking at Macplants , ordering plants seems very appealing right now. I would have ordered So Cool Pale Blue but it was OOS as are many, I chose the only sizes Westons had left in my selection as I would have preferred 2lt specimens too at not much more cost. I have a new project and plenty of space to fill, this border is being doubled all the way round, you can see how far my longsuffering husband has got. It is filthy out so I've given him the day off.
The achillea is New Vintage Violet. My favourite one is Red Velvet, it seems to fade slower than other varieties. The diascia is (or was) indeed personata. I feel bad for not persevering with the cuttings…
