@newbie77 - blackbirds & thrushes etc. Eat them, I don't know if they go for all rose hips but dog rose and rugosas are meant to be particularly good for them.
We were woken early hours by a huge explosion sound, like a bomb going off nearby. Big fire on the industrial estate. We're ok though.
Kew Gardens thinks it's Kew Rambler! 10ft+ tall. A lot of it will have to come off though as it grew behind the wires
There's geranium Elworthy Eyecatcher - still going when most of my other plants have gone to sleep.
And here is my penstemon raven. I planted it three years ago in autumn. The following spring it flowered a bit. The next year it didn't do anything at all, it stayed exactly the same size, didn't die, but didn't grow. This year I cut off any brown bits but it had another year of just sitting there.
Now finally it seems to have grown a bit through autumn.
Very strange though, never had a plant like it. I've had them die on me, but not just sit there alive but doing nothing for three years!!
Deep freeze here this morning, solid outside water bowls - brrr.
Really good root system on your GG cutting @Mr. Vine Eye and that looks a good geranium, amazing it’s still in flower. I have the opposite problem with my penstemon raven, they’ve grown really big and woody, but so far I’m finding it a poor flowerer. I really should have taken cuttings but I can’t seem to keep any cutting alive!
This Munstead Wood cutting, also 2yrs old, has developed into a pleasing little bushy shrub but the cutting material was a bit wimpy so needs to develop some backbone to support the blooms:
Ah, Munstead Wood! Such a healthy, compact, floriferous and heat-tolerant rose for me. Your demise is a real tragedy. I only get the blackberry and deep burgundy tones in the first flush but it’s still a summer stalwart. So here’s a little spring to summer tribute..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Your Munstead Wood, @Nollie .... gosh, I see why David Austin had to discontinue such a dreadful, unhealthy, unreliable and climate-sensitive rose. You must be wretchedly disappointed you wasted your money on those horrors.
Impressed by that geranium Elworthy Eyecatcher, @Mr. Vine Eye. Will have to try to get it. My only geranium still blooming a lot is Anne Folkard.
And finally... picked, indoors... I am getting some scent for the first time from Princess Alexandra of Kent-- in December. Thrilled!
'MW' always looks good in your garden @Nollie such rich colouring rarely seen.. Austins should have treasured that rose for all time..
Yes I like that Geranium too, and 'KG' doing great for @Mr. Vine Eye .. I used to let mine ramble a bit at its best.. I was never sure quite what size it was capable of..
Nice hips, and own roots, always a pleasant surprise.. your allotment will be filled with beautiful roses..
Winter arriving next week, much colder, maybe a bit of snow..
@Discandied ..they look really good. May I ask how long they took to arrive? and was it easy to order and pay? I wasn't sure if they were still despatching to us..
@Marlorena They arrived 8 days after being dispatched and were straight forward enough to order. It wasn't really any different to ordering from a UK seller, except the postage was more, of course. The roses themselves were cheaper, which helps offset that. They were well-packaged and had not dried out at all when they arrived.
Those look incredible, @Discandied. The one on the top right almost sets off my arachnophobia.
Three bareroots arrived from Peter Beales. Also not as big as TW roses lol, but the best-looking is Bordure Camaieu, which I have lusted after for a long time.
Marchenzauber/Bliss Parfuma seems an odd shape (but was only £10 so I am not complaining). The darker cane in the middle is jammed up against the outer cane on the right. Is there a way to train them to grow apart? There are only three sturdy canes so I'm loath to cut one off.

Very good roots for own root rose. Where do you buy sharp sand from?

Oh and could we have the names please?
Those are looking like mermaids.
