I think dahlia sellers will do well this year, it seems many of us have lost some. I hope my Thomas Edison has survived though, I've had it for years and regularly give some away. It always gets a wow from visitors with its huge very purple blooms.
I've had basketfuls of plants chosen at Farmer Gracy, Burncoose and Peter Beale's within the last week but am feeling smug I never hit checkout. I really really mustn't. I too like to buy when at garden centres it turns out. I got so used to buying online during the last few years I forgot what a treat a garden centre visit can be.
Lovely day today, finished the inground rose pruning. Blush Noisette was the last and probably best climber I've pruned, a manageable one but also practise makes perfect. I'm still not ruthless enough probablySpring is well on its way
Thanks @Marlorena I was hoping they were good picks as not familiar with most of them! Thorny will be in good company with my Albertine the spikey beast
I use gracy a lot - theres a 20% discount currently for GW Subscribers on the discounts page. I put my dahlia in the polytunnel as its dry in there, will check them but seem ok so far. I recommend nematodes for slug busting and insect mesh over pots whilst they get a bit bigger, that helps. (All mine are in pots so i can more easily hoik back out...). Earwigs were my nemesis!!
Oh you have a cheerful amount of colour @Tack. Here only snowdrops so far but starting to see some colour on the crocus.
I think the garden and I am done with winter, bit of a mild frost this morning though after doing most of the rose pruning yesterday . Lots of bulbs coming up now so I need to finish off all the jobs that involve me trampling in the borders.
Not rose related although Nuits de Young is on the bank behind the Hellebore, and two of my new potted roses are decorating the bridge due to lack of space An unforeseen winter view of the pond from the new bench area. I quite like it. I sometimes forget how much surface area there is with having a bridge and loads of overhanging plants.
Lady of the Lake has the most advanced growth out of my roses at the moment. Last year she had a big head start and then completely shut down - probably in response to major aphid attack. I'll check regularly and try to keep on top this year. Cold seems to have reduced their numbers compared to the same time last year though.
Bathsheba is a close second
Lovely crocus! There were very few last year, now they’ve all clumped up. I also planted lots more bulbs in autumn so they’re popping up everywhere
Spent all weekend in the garden as we had zero frost and a gloriously sunny 21c few days! The soil is so dry I gave the roses their first proper watering. Sadly not the arrival of spring, just a big tease, as plummeting temperatures have returned and lows of -8c due again by the weekend 🥶
TCL did offer to include a replacement Versigny (currently oos) with my next order, but since I’m not planning on another order, I asked them to send me CPM as a substitute instead - radio silence on that suggestion, so far..
Still vacillating over ordering V from Guillot, along with Honey Bouquet + I more, possibly a Generosa, but can’t make my mind up on which one. Think I’ll resist, I need more tough shrubs and perennials, not yet more roses.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Lucky you to be back out in the garden Nollie.. gone a bit chilly here again too.
hope you get your Versigny rose at some point, some of them are just so awkward to get hold of it's quite remarkable..
@ciaranmcgrenera Yes ciaran, same time, but do make sure you water in fert on your potted roses, and not to leave it dry on the surface for too long if rain is not forecast..
The plummet in temperatures here, -2 at 8 am, have put a hold on any seed sowing I was contemplating, and the last of the roses to nip back, only four left to do. I think there maybe quite a few casualties in the garden to cold, but you never know, so will give everything the benefit of the doubt until spring is well in.

is that a man-made pond? It is flipping gorgeous
