nice summer pics edhelka.. is that alstromeria Indian summer in the first pic.. like how the colour shifts from it and the orange colour of the rose to the violet/ mauve shades..
Thanks, yes. It is a late spring/early summer photo, when that border is at its best.
@edhelka is that Digitalis-Firebird in your pic? does it grow as a perennial for you? Mine looks pretty dead at the moment..
Digitalis Illumination 'Flame'. I got a second year out of them (3, in pots, while my other 3 Illumination 'Berry Canary' in the ground died). I don't think I am getting a third year. They are definitely not reliably hardy but can probably survive in a cold greenhouse. I think it's more the wet weather than the cold that kills them. They do repeat the whole summer though.
Received my discounted Peter Beales bare roots and have just planted them. Digging through clay and roots in this weather is no fun and my OH and I are grumpy with each other. The one planted in a pot took 3 minutes, so much more pleasant. The new bed is progressing well but I do hope the reduced watering in the summer (compared to pots) is worth it.
Everyone’s border looks really beautiful and colourful. Mine only has got bare ground with lots of weeds in them. If I could achieve half of what of your borders I would be happy.
Mme Hardy: In third year, I agree with Nollie and I could not detect muchscent and I am still keeping it this year. I may let it go soon.
Fair Bianca - strong scent which I dislike. I have got two but I think I have lost one this year as the stems turned brown Crocus Rose:
Desdemona: Second year, poor specimen from TCL, thought it will not survive but still here and trying hard to stay alive . Hoping to see it growing nicely this year.
@Tack love all of those. Susan W-E looks good... would you recommend it? I also love your Gruss an Aachen. Love mine too but it definitely veers over to the pink side a lot!
Tranquillity ... so healthy but no scent. I love the yellow shading and its nice big blooms all the same. Hoping it won't need so much staking as it gets bigger. It holds up well to the weather but does brown a bit round the edges from rain/careless watering. Tranquillity after a week:
I got William and Catherine from my rose fairy right at the end of the season. Not the nicest fragrance but still quite a charming rose. Shattered pretty quickly but it *is* planted in collie vs squirrel battle territory.
@edhhelka your Albrighton Rambler is truly fabulous. I got sent it accidentally by DA last July and was a bit non-plussed as haven't seen too many pictures of it. I like the variety of colours... cream/white, pink, buff/apricot even in the same cluster. Yours is so pretty. I have now planted mine where its lack of fragrance won't matter at all.
Can I include Amazing Day, since white is the most prominent colour in it most of the time for me? It was @edhelka and @cooldoc who forced me to get this. Remember loving the scent. Crisp blooms. Its first flush was much better than its second for me, which coincided with the heatwave but may have been down to soil conditions. I have now moved it so fingers crossed both flushes will be OK this year.
And finally yet more Boule de Neige spam, pictured here after two nights of heavy rain... looking pretty unfazed.
Have new John Paul II, Sugar Moon, Winchester Cathedral and Sarah (MEImalfris) to look forward to and am still contemplating Desdemona, Sweet Child of Mine and Aspirin / Special Child, though perhaps next season as (like you and Mr Tack, Tack) I am truly fed up with digging holes!
There was a member on here who had the most beautiful array of white roses but I can't remember his handle.
Fabulous roses, @WAMS. Amazing day looks very good. I’m curious about John Paul II - where did you order it from?
My most neglected rose is this pale yellow one that I haven’t managed to identify yet. It’s really lovely and the scent is good too. I should really try to take better care of it.
@Nollie Like that translucent petals and button eye of Madame Hardy.. I understand what you mean by 'for a Delbard'.. they do take off with tall thick stems.. AA does not have any HMF pics.. may be you could help by adding yours.. Marcel proust reminded me of DA's description of bloom shapes and it fits in multiple categories..
the Claire Austin looks lovely even with hanging heads.. how does it fair in the rain @Tack How did you dig through this snow.. was clearing the snow off my car and my hand went numb after 5 mins...
gosh.. thanks @WAMS@zugenie@Marlorena Oh yes you can use the pic.. well the secret of having a colour riot like that is having run out of place to plant Town in bloom sounds interesting Zugenie.. my neighbours are not too bothered about having a garden at the moment.. (just having a well clipped lawn is not garden for me ) something like this would help I feel..
WAMS I was tempted by Edhelka in buying Amazing day.. she does change her colours doesn't she.. Fair bianca lookes similar to Boule d neige.. Is it the strong Myrrh scent similar to Strawberry hill? @Rojas I was not sure if I would like it at first.. Marlorena did warn as well.. but once I got it, I just loved that sharp notes.. even in Scepter'd Isle..
Lovely yellow Pitter-patter.. they have that halo effect.. I think it's worth taking care of..
Now that there are some yellows already in the mix.. should we start with Yellows tomorrow? anyone can still post whites/cream.. more the merrier.. I am working tomorrow, so will join all of you later...
My neighbours are much the same, were at the old house too, I always joked that my old neighbours were lucky because they got to look out onto my front garden (it was mostly at the side of the house) and I had to look at theirs - mostly variations on gravel, astroturf, few plants in pots if you were lucky 😆
the front is just grass at the moment, but next year it’s full steam ahead with getting it planted! I looked at last years winners and they were nothing spectacular so it’s worth a punt I feel!!
@WAMS Thank you. Yeah, it has quite a nice range of colours. I think my plant is a bit limited by its location but it did well last year.
Oh, are we doing white roses? I don't pay attention. Here are some:
Mrs. Herbert Stevens, cl., it grew quite a lot in the second half of the last year, it should look nice this year. Dunwich rose Souvenir de St. Anne's Jacqueline Humery

Marlorena, Owd Potter, Tack - thanks.
Looks a good place to live..
@cooldoc
A riot of colours, straight out of Christopher Lloyd..
Heavy rain here, not much snow..
Anyone ordered from Malcolm Allison plant nursery, Chelt. Gloucs.. ? he has some unusual plants including a few roses like 'Tigris'..

@WAMS tranquility is a show stopping bloom, shame about the scent but I guess they can’t all be in a position where you can sniff them!
