    ..thank you !  I must say the NHS were brilliant all the way through, and I was dealt with surprisingly quickly, and received almost private type treatment.  I cannot speak highly enough of the help I received.   I realise this is not the experience for many, but in this instance, that's all I can say..

    I would plant it now, as long as you firm it in I can't see a problem..   by the way I liked your Pergola earlier, quite fetching..

    @Marlorena, glad to hear your news. Must have been difficult to go through it for you and family. We went through similar couple of years ago when big C was suspected for my DH. It was nerve-wracking for us and thankfully it turned out to be something else after all the tests.

    Is anyone mulching roses in autumn or shall I leave this task for spring?

    ..thanks @newbie77
    .. so glad to hear your DH was ok, yes it's a worry for all those close to us.

    I love mulching in Autumn, I prefer to Spring actually, as it has time to blend in, but it's up to you.  Either is good.

    So glad to read your good news, I know what a dreadful time you must have had. I look forward to seeing your new rose lists and pictures next year. Gives me a foresight of my  own the year after :D
  • Glad to hear the good news @Marlorena and that you now feel more like starting again picking roses.😁

    Very good news @Marlorena, I am happy for you!

    Since I planted my bareroots in random places, would it be a problem to move them next spring/summer? I am asking because I need to see the rose before deciding where I want it to be, but discovered that I hate doing garden work during autumn/winter.

    ..thanks everyone.  I'm going to do my rose inventory shortly, what I have left..

    @dabolem
    .. yes you can move them again in early Spring, but you're in Italy and you might have to bring that forward in your location.  Maybe February time?
    .. my motto is, if in doubt - pot it.  I don't like planting roses around the garden knowing I'm going to have to move them later..
    ..  I use small pots and put the bare roots in them with just garden soil until I have a place in the garden or a larger pot.  It takes away all the pressure of wondering what to do with them.  If a place is found before Spring I just tip them out bare root and plant... otherwise they stay in pot to root in and plant out in June as a small potted rose..
    By that time, if you don't know where they're going - there's no hope !..
