    Zone 2a would be a stretch for anything I've got here..

    ah yes, those rose fields..  I tried to order from Cocker's a while back but found they only send out in bulk, like 10 roses of a type or something..  Anderson's I vaguely remember..
    Aberdeen to me is famous for Crathes Castle where they have a rose garden.  I just checked their website and the rose garden is being redone..
    They also have this magnificent Philadelphus 'Beauclerk', which I planted here recently, but I won't be letting it get as big as theirs..

    I'll be rejuvenating my Philadelphus once it has flowered - down to the ground!  It is ancient too (isn't everything in my garden, self included) and I am being Darwinian: it will either live or leg it!

    Re Crathies Castle - just down the road is Drum Castle with their Garden of Historic Roses (https://www.nts.org.uk/visit/places/drum-castle/highlights/garden-of-historic-roses) which I think you may find very interesting, and I wouldn't blame you if you took a few softwood cuttings into a sneaky zip-lock.

    Not that you would ever do such a thing!

    Cockers do either a 5 or 10 bundle (I tried, same as you) and the bundle must be of the same variety.  Reason I think is they are more into wholesale and/or municipal/estate purchases, though they do sell single standards.  If I remember rightly, they have the Royal warrant for the late queen.

    @PeterAberdeen

    I'd not heard of Drum before Peter, thank you... interesting, sounds like they have a great selection of old roses..  plenty of cuttings there !..  I'm more of a photo person, clicking away at everything I see..

    I've only been to Inverewe on the west coast and Logan further down..  these days I content myself with Peter Beales rose garden which is about an hour from me.. it's a bit of a gem actually..

    Hope the weather warms and you can plant out those roses soon...

    Oooh, some nice rosy locations to visit there @PeterAberdeen thank you - im married to a Scotsman and we have family up there so I can see if I can wrangle a trip to some of them in warmer seasons (A fair trade off for my agreeing to climbing big hills in force 10 gales and rain when we were elsewhere in Scotland! ;) )
