I haven't received the DA catalogue yet, but then the description of the new roses posted earlier in this thread is not quite inspiring; so I don't think I'll go for it. I will be happy to see photos posted of the new DA ones though ☺️ On a different note, I have just finished pruning the roses. With the weather predicted to be colder next week, I'm thinking of feeding the roses some time mid-March. I'm drooling over Minerva; but then I already have Ebb Tide and Rhapsody in Blue and Wild Rover to look forward to. 😃
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Boo, I was looking forward to a nice new Austin too, instead flippin Chelsea releases and the teasers look very similar to existing ones Very likely something royal named again if announcing them there! The top one looks pale apricotty like Jude, the bottoms just another dark pink like others (called it!).
I was quite pleased with bring me sunshine as it did quite well for me and I liked the pale green leaves but Im not wanting another plain yellow or pink! Tempted to get sceptred isle at some point though before thats inevitably discontinued!
'Scented Garden' is one of my best performing roses here.. the photos above were taken with my old camera - all a bit dark, but thanks @zugenie for finding them..
Here's a better pic... this is a wonderful rose if one likes this colour arrangement..
Welcome back edhelka... I know what winter's are like..
I think I'll write an email of complaint to Austin's over the missing bare roots this season.. rather poor form..
Oh I can really vouch for the power of influence with you lot! Half my garden is because youve all posted gorgeous pictures of the rose first! Highlights brought having seen and recommended here include Mme antoine maari, a midsummer nights dream, lady emma hamilton, munstead wood... the list goes on and 0 regrets haha! I am still tempted by the prince and either sceptred isle or mill on the floss, I picked queen of Sweden for the front but id like a classic cupped english rose pink in the opposite corner too.
Realised whats annoying me about the Austin Chelsea release too, cant quite articulate it but something about perception of an expensive show (location etc) with exclusive days for celebrities and basically rich to get first dibs on the potted rather than open to all rankles me? I know its prestigious and sure, I watch it on tv, but it comes over as a bit elitist I think?
Definitely. You think of David Austin Sr toiling away in obscurity in his Wolverhampton shed for decades... it's a far cry from, "We could make piles more £££ by skipping the bareroot release and flogging just the potted roses." Mind you, unless they are more careful with their picking, they could lose more money this way too. They sent me the wrong potted rose last year... a rambler on a bamboo frame rather than the shrub I ordered, and it had a big shiny picture label, and it was in bloom-- three chances for them to see they were sending the wrong thing!
Oh dear, this thread... I am going to need to get Scented Garden. Those colours are perfection.

Welcome back @edhelka, even if it is just for a rant 😆 Have you got any new roses this year?
