34 lily bulbs arrived today - I (again) had completely forgotten about that order.
Dear @pitter-patter, I can only echo the above sentiments (or should that be scentiments). When life gives you lemons ... &c, there always seems to be a something and to look upon whatever the outcome as a new beginning is a good view point to have. As my old gran used to say "They cannot chop your head off!".
I had a brain-storm last night. But although I feel sheepish I do not regret it. As I had dug up the Goujards from the front of the house, we had decided to be really old-fashioned and recreate the shrubbery. So the replacements for the Goujards were ordered - 1 x Witch Hazel and 1 x Corkscrew Hazel. Two hazels, but Mum is delighted as she has always wanted them. I am also ashamed to say I also snuck in some other perennials, but I will own up to them at a later date.
Border nearly finished being dug - just got to find the time for the final 3 mtr square left. But the path is in and the White Lilac is out.
I am really envious of all your new growth and bulbs flowering already. Up North we are about 2 weeks behind you all, so we still need to be patient.
Thank you, everyone. I’m trying to keep strong and think positive. I too would love a dark strongly scented rose that would be healthy and floriferous. There quite a bit of dieback on my Munstead Wood, unfortunately, and I would love something similar, but maybe more robust and upright.
This year I’m going to wait and see how the new release looks for any of you that buy it, sometimes I feel like their photos aren’t always accurate colour wise!
Plus I already have 3 roses that need a home, I really shouldn’t buy any more 😆
@pitter-patter I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you’re going through. Hopefully a solution will present itself very soon.
As for the new DA release… I would‘ve liked some unusual colour / bi-colour and a simpler flower shape (like semi double). But as the last year showed, one can’t really rely on the DA’s photos of the new releases when it comes to colour…
@pitter-patter so sorry to hear about the possible loss of your lovely garden sanctuary, but it’s an expression of your creativity and soul and nobody can take those away from you.
@Tack, I’m hoping, assuming I get hold of it, that Versigny won’t go coral! It may fade and pink out a bit which is ok - it will be in good company with LoS and LEH. It’s meant to be heat tolerant with good petal substance, so that was the main attraction.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@pitter-patter sorry for the difficulties that you're going through. Best wishes and prayers for everything to turn your way.
With regards to DA new release, I am really curious to find out colours of the rose and will only be tempted if it is dark coloured with lots of petals, fruity fragranced and unusual. I was looking for A Shropshire lad for a while as I liked the flower form, colour and scent. Luckily I have managed to find and order the last 5l potted rose from Ashridge Trees nursery. Paid £40 for a rose+delivery and making this as a most expensive rose! I should have bought it when I've been to the DA garden back in 2018. Is anyone growing A Shropshire Lad rose? Has anyone got Peach Melba rose? Is it strongly scented? How do you describe the fragrance please?
Quick q- if you plant a standard rose, does the long stem need direct sunlight at all at the base? I'm thinking not because I have seen them inside little box hedges, but would just like to confirm. I have found a place in the garden when it would get full sun from about a metre up, but the ground is in total shade.
@Rojas, I have A Shropshire lad. Flowers are as beautiful as they look in photos. Cant remember much about its fragrance though. I didnt know it got retired.

Take care everyone.
It would have to be very special to make me want to get one - and pot suitable.
The only reason I’d feel inclined is because I’ve never bought one on release. I’ve wanted to but not been interested in the last few years’ releases.
@pitter-patter - sorry to hear this, hope things work out for you
