    Sublime. DA would sell nothing but Harlow Carr standards if they used your pictures, @pitter-patter

    @Mr. Vine Eye
    I know, maybe wait for discounts?   see how it goes..

    @Alfie_
    I meant to say earlier your roses from CM look really good, so many canes on them, I would be very pleased with those too..

    @Marlorena yes I was impressed with my CM bare roots. The average one was similar to my best Austin ones. It’s just a case of getting them in the ground; it’s dark when I get up and also when I get home from work 🙈

    Thanks for the advice about MAC.

    So many great rose hips pics on here.

    @pitter-patter what a stunning summer garden. How many seasons did it take to get Harlow C standards looking that glamorous? I’ve never gone for a standard but your pics definitely make it tempting for sure. Your standards look better than the ones on the Austin website.

    @Nollie that pot with Gerty in is impressive! I love the belt it has to keep it together :D

    @Alfie_
    what is MAC, Madame Alfred Carriere?
    If so, then @Marlorena, your opinion on this, gained no doubt by your personal experience of it, appears contrary to Beales (i think) who state it requires hard pruning & deadheading to promote flowering.
    High maintenance in an awkward to access location is the main reason I chose not to grow this over my pergola.
    Just another day at the plant...

    @owd potter yes it is Alfred and it’s difficult to prune for sure as it’s nearly reach the roof 😂

    We haven’t lived here long. We inherited it and it must be very old as the main stem (which is obscured by shrubs) is very thick, maybe 2-2.5 inches. Does look great when it’s flowering and is nice to see out of the top windows as you can open them to get the fragrance but it’s got to a point of blocking the light on that right one :D

    I have a ladder so need to go up there I think. It’s very bushy in its growth so protrudes a lot from the wall. It’s like having a bushy shrub stuck to the wall! I prefer the bit on the brick side which is quite flat in its growth. I’m not sure if that’s a feature of MAC to be so bushy? I would prefer something more like this one I found online in terms of it being more flat:

    But like Marlorena said that would require training on the render and that’s probably not great to go drilling in to.
  • Hopefully you won't have @Nollie , and I hope you are feeling better soon. I got it in summer after keeping it at bay for two years! Wouldn't mind but I had been outside all day ,at an agricultural show, but still picked it up from somewhere 🤷‍♀️
    I too love seeing everyone's summer roses, especially as its been dark and gloomy here for a week.
