Thanks for sharing photos from your trip @Mr. Vine Eye

I have not been paying attention to when it rained last. Are you watering pots?

I have applied for 3 days leave from work next week. That's the only way I can get some time to prune roses and clean up garden.

  • I watered my pots on Friday after realising that they looked a bit freezer dried. I think actually there was still some moisture there but was just being cautious! There’s rain expected later this week.

I haven’t been watering anything. We still get regular below zero temperatures at night so I thought not to do watering until night temperatures increase.
    Should I start watering anyway?

I just did because everything is bone dry and the plants are all actively growing.
But we should get rain this week... hopefully anyway

I'm watering pots and newly planted shrubs and trees.

Great pruning shots, especially the climbers, Mr. V. They do plant them rather hard up against the wall, don’t they?

I am a very a careless tool owner so buy cheap to replace the ones I constantly lose. I don’t sharpen (never have them long enough for that to be necessary) but do clean and disinfect secateurs occasionally, assuming I can find them!

Not yet Marlorena.. tomorrow! I’m on ‘keeping an eye on elderly mother after her fall’ duty while my sister has a well-earned break. Easy job, she is doing really well.

Thanks all for watering info. I will see next week, if pots are still dry, then I will water. Borders and lawn is still very soggy.

I use wolf garten secateurs. Wolf Garten tools are bright red so less chance of loosing. I have both bypass and anvil one. I mostly use Anvil one as I get confused which way to hold the bypass one. This is my third Anvil one in 8 years of gardening and I never sharpened. I have been very careless and cut anything, even very hard shrub branches too.
I think I should learn how to sharpen.

Doesn’t matter what colour they are, I still manage to lose tools Newbie. The pup is also proving adept at stealing them. I occasionally unearth rusted specimens in the compost heap!
