@Suesyn Just to add, my Tall Story isn't thorny at all, one of my lowest thorn roses in fact.. some canes have a row of tiny prickles running down, but other stems are virtually thornless.. so I wouldn't worry about that aspect..
@cooldoc FP was one that I’d bought as bareroot the winter before we moved house so I only had one spring/summer with the proper plant. I wasn’t overly impressed with the br it was very spindly and I think only put out one bloom, but it was it’s first year so I was holding judgement. The one I have now is a cutting of that br plant, and this will be it’s second summer, even for such a small plant and in a pot I think I had 3 blooms on it last year, the scent is lovely, quite strong. It’s in the border now so I’ll be interested to see how it does!
On the discussion on the DA new introductions I believe they are just using the previous years introductions photos as their preview photos, I really don’t think they’d release another yellow and pink…but I can’t be sure.
Also I believe they’ve gone down the health route of breeding and it’s just hard to come by dark reds within this health category. Maybe someone there is clever enough to realise that healthy roses may also be the decline of innovation for unique and usual colours. But until the day we see good repeat ramblers, or a new purple or red I’ll keep my skeptics hat on.
I’m enjoying the rose festival, it was great idea @cooldoc, looking forward to the the rest of the colour wheel next week.. we haven’t officially done apricot and orange have we?
Still on pinks, I trial a lot of roses here and many don’t make the cut so I haven’t featured those. A few are still on trial and the bourbon Catherine Guillot, a seedling of the better known Louise Odier, is one of them. It’s been a pretty weak grower with few and rather small blooms, so far. I need to give it more time to settle in, get stronger and hopefully bloom better. I also need to show it some of those fabulous specimens on hmf to jolly it along!
@Marlorena you must have a couple of favourite pinks or more unusual ones perhaps that we haven’t seen featured yet, can we persuade you to give us your selected highlights?
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
thanks @zugenie will await your review this year..
I too got Gertrude this year @Suesyn purely for the fragrance..
I too think the same @badgerwatch might not be the same colours as they made us believe.. hope it's different..
My pinks.. Scepter d'Isle.. Strong Myrrh.. a fragrance that I have grown to love.. throws odd long canes.. all Austin's does that I guess..
Enchantress.. Old rose scent(more like Yardley rose talcum powder).. remained pretty short for me in its first year..
Chandos Beauty..
PAOK.. Variable scent at times.. Tea scent becomes prominent with age..
Jubilee celebration.. My most loved rose.. Harlow Carr.. blooms drop and fade fast.. and has arching throny canes.. might be better grown as a standard..
Young Lycidas.. another favourite of mine..
Rachael.. No fragrance even in 2nd year.. but blooms well in flushes..
