I’ve got a long list of construction and gardening jobs to get through too @Victoria Sponge but a certain Smudge is taking up all of my time, so nothing even started. she is starting to teethe and entering the puppy fear stage, while OH conveniently has to go to the UK for a week 🙄
SdMP is going to prove a good one I think. A bit leggy at the moment as it was shoved in shade for much of the summer but hopefully a more open position and a good prune will solve that.
@Lizzie27 I bin mine, nobody around me is interested in roses but even if they were, I wouldn’t want to foist a poorly rose on anyone or one that can’t cope with the local climate.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I haven't given away roses yet (only so far dumping ones that are failing), but I have left smaller potted plants and trays of extra seedlings out the front, clearly marked "Free." They are always taken quickly. But I do live on a busy road.
If anyone here ever gets sick of their Munstead Wood, I'd be happy to buy it from you😇 (though if you bunged it on eBay, you could probably get quite a lot for it just now!).
@edhelka - lovely garden. Grasses looking good. Mine haven’t had the impact I was hoping for at this time of year, largely due to being squashed by cats and not really recovering!
Malvern Hills looking pretty against a blue sky this morning.
And speaking of cats - here's my latest attempt to keep the them out of Desdmeona's pot. I'm so fed up of having to resettle the soil and dig out poop!
Regarding DA withdrawal (or archiving if you like) of many roses. I have MW & LEH, both of which are 1 year plants. What will happen if they should fail within my 5 year rose guarantee i wonder? Are DA still cultivating some of each to fulfill their guarantee obligations do we think?
Good question @owd potter, I suspect they’ll probably offer you a refund or an alternative rose instead.
Well it seems my rose addiction is not easily cured, nor my newfound interest in standards. I have succumbed to Lens! I’ve had to seek out more victims to sacrifice to the shovel to accommodate the following:
Lady Emma Hamilton Standard - to replace Golden Celebration, the latter sadly lacks the proper wide space to develop into the big arching shrub it wants to be.
- my trio of cercosporma-plagued LEH next to GC is going, maybe to pot hospital since they are clearly like gold dust now (to be replaced by Roald Dahl) The standard should get more air movement and I might even resort to spraying it.
Empereur Charles IV Standard - I’m thinking a new centrepiece for the East garden to replace an ailing clematis wigwam, but it may need a shadier spot so will be potted just in case.
Darlow’s Enigma - to replace an underwhelming Dominique Loiseau, whose spot needs something more vigorous anyway.
Violet Hood - a last minute change as Marc’s Jubilee is surplus to requirements now, as thanks to Imprevu, I’ve secured CPM. This will probably occupy Mutabilis’ ex spot. Thanks also to @Victoria Sponge for bringing this one to my notice!
