It was there quite some time, staring at me... is it a Sparrowhawk? I've been calling it a Kestrel every time I see it... I should know the difference and I've tried to check but I'm still not certain..
With thousands of photos, I've always got roses.. here are some from yesteryear..
'Felicia' a hybrid musk, wide growing 5 x 8 foot, thornless,.. continuous bloom and scented... difficult to ask for more, but gets rather bedraggled in heavy rain..
'Anne Boleyn'.. an Austin, this is a group of 3.. long delay between flushes for me..
..they are rather photogenic..
'Zephirine Drouhin'.. amongst the Foxgloves..
..a melange of roses.. 'The Poet's Wife'.. / 'Forever Royal' / 'Scepter'd Isle' / 'The Generous Gardener' / 'Baronne Prevost' / 'Wild Rover'..
Talk of the devil @Marlorena in the garden this morning I find the Sparrowhawk sitting eating one of my LBJ ! Not sure if it was a Sparrow or Dunnock 🤦♀️🤷♀️
Great photos Marlorena, the kestrel too. Love your lush melange.
I know I go on far too much about this rose, but couldn’t resist featuring it again, sorry!
Soul, Shrub [Tantau 2014]
I grow this espaliered on a low fence which has worked well so far since it breaks closely-spaced flowering laterals easily and clothes both sides. It would be a tall, upright shrub left to it’s own devices. Healthy and vigorous for me with good repeat. Large, richly fragrant blooms mostly in clusters. They do spoil somewhat in heavy rain so I’m always watching the weather report and hoping it stays dry during flushes. So probably not one for areas with high rainfall, but otherwise a fantastic rose. Early blooms are more red and later ones purplish pink, but whatever shade it is, the blooms seem to glow in the sun and are quite striking from a distance:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
'Soul' is glorious in your garden Nollie, especially with the scent included.. I always meant to get it when it was released, but never got around to it..
@purplerallim I had to look up what LBJ meant.. It made me laugh a bit because local dialects can mean something quite different. I think in Scotland for instance..
I do struggle with predation and always hope the victim escapes, but they all have to eat.. I admit to releasing butterflies or bees trapped in spider's webs..
I do too @Marlorena but that's more because I don't like spiders 😱 The LBJ I picked up from listening to Bill Oddie talk about birds.😁 It makes me sad to think one of my little ones have gone, but glad it's not the Robin, I only have one of them!

My best effort today is a Bird of Prey, my regular visitor..
I think it's a Kestrel..
My Sparrowhawk is in and out like a flash, hardly seen never mind snapped. 😆
