Hello all. Had rain overnight again, and temperatures are nice and cool but not chilly. Our NDN has had more than halved his big conifer hedge cut down on his side of the fence which has now let in so much light and sun that we will probably have to tweak some planting now. It all used to be quite shady. We are having a new fence put up though so we are looking forward to that. Bit disappointed though as we can't get a six foot fence due to concrete posts so have to make do with a five footer. We are quite open now, too, to a lot of neighbours homes and windows so feeling somewhat overlooked. We're planning on putting a foot wide trellis along the top of of the new fence and planting a new clematis montana in, so that should add a bit of height and hide some views.
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the cooler weather.

Hello there Hazel. In one way it is probably nice to have all that light coming into your garden. I think it is an excellent idea to have the trellis making up the extra height on your fence and once the montana scrambles along it it will give you your privacy back.

You're absolutely right LB, just need to relocate the Phlox somewhere else so that I have a space for the clematis and then it will be all systems go.I  am doing some lawn patching at the  moment as we have got bare areas now after the heat.b
  • @Songbird-2 Hi Hazel good to see you. Its amazing how much light you get back when your neighbour cuts their hedge isn't it. Our NDN mentioned awhile back he was going do his hedge. Then came the heatwave and we're still waiting. When he did last time I was amazed how much more light we got. A Montana clematis will look lovely on a trellis around the garden. They grow quickly too.
All wet things got dry and the rain stayed away. Its still lovely and sunny now.  I'm hoping the rain stays away tonight and at least tomorrow morning so I can cut the grass.  Still bald in some places but others need a trim.

Hi SGL, you're right, it makes a tremendous difference when hedging is trimmed. Hopefully your NDN will get cracking soon now the cooler weather has arrived. It's started raining here , just as well I got  stuff on the string outside this morning.
