I thought you were going to say older than that LB. I was trying to work out who the five could be.ย I've only knownย the Queen and now Charles.ย It will take a little while to get used to hearing King and not Queenย
I think I'll try and avoid watching any TV today. The state of the world is generally pretty grim, but the death of the Queen makes it that bit worse this morning.
Irrespective of whether the monarchy is or isn't regarded as a good thing, she carried out the duties that were forced upon on her with good grace, devotion and (an occasionally revealed) good sense of humour. The tributes will rightly be long and fitting but I'll leave them for others to watch, I think.
Instead I'm going to busy myself with planting a few things shortly. My OH exclaimed that she 'loved' the view of the back garden out of the kitchen window yesterday evening. Nice as that was to hear, I'd say that it was more a comparative comment than a true reflection of the reality. Too many gaps and pots for my liking!
Morning Biglad. Yes, I agree with you. This is one part of our history that is very difficult to listen to and watch. If it wasn't hissing down I would be sawing some boughs off my bird cherry and my ancient lilac. Think I need to go to the famous DIY store though as I doubt my two old saws could even cut through butter these days.

Good morning everyone .My thoughts are with the Royal family as they face all the necessary duties attached to a Royal death . Its very wet here today .I think I will get my knitting needles out .
The rain has arrived here @Ladybird4 but I got a Cornus Alba into the ground this morning. Took a while because there was an old tree root that I had to saw through a few inches under the surface. It's frustrating that every hole that I try to dig takes so much longer than it should. However, that's one of the larger pots emptied. Just as well because it was pretty rootbound and growing through the bottom.
Afties all. Lovely poem and pictures SGL and lovely comments. A lady we were talking to today said that her son, in the Army and due on leave for this weekend, was put on alert yesterday morning and all leave cancelled. He was in tears to his mother when they heard the news about The Queen as were a lot of his colleagues. So respectful and from one of the younger generations. And today, such a lot of people have gathered in the capital and at Buckingham Palace in support of our new King.ย
LB, fence was put up successfully the other day ( although some muddy patches here and there) , thanks. We will always remember that particular day now.
Good afternoon all. I went to Canasta and enjoyed the game. All our thoughts were with the royal family especially the new King. How difficult it must be for him, having lost his beloved Mother so soon after losing his Father, to carry on with the affairs of state.
Rosie, good to see you. Hope all your 'busy' stuff is finished with.
Biglad, you have done well. Plants do have this sneaky way of growing roots through the drainage hole and anchoring themselves to the ground if we don't look out.
Hazel, I am pleased that your fence is now up. As you say, you won't forget the day it was installed.
I am nipping across to see Jack once I have seen and heard Charles' first speech as our King.
