Some folk seem to have very thin skin. It's well known Scotland has a major drug problem. Did i run to the mods re the comment about Scottish independence junkies? No. It's a forum. Try posting on political forums for proper 'robust' language.
Someone somewhere manages to offend someone else somewhere every day of the week. I live in England so can't comment on the question of Scottish Independence but do you think it is likely to happen ? Westminster seems to be set against it in the forseeable future. Not only the Scots would like to be independant but areas of England too. London holds the reins and we are all subject to that little, but powerful, spot on the map. Revolution anyone ?
If anyone cannot see that certain posts by Balgay Hill were at the very least perjorative, and worst, downright disgusting about a collective, then you are lost in the quagmire of group think.
Marlorena As B3 says, this kind of comment turns up fairly often here . We have to choose how to engage with it - argue; shout; block; notice and move on? It's not obvious how to best respond. Hosta says he has never seen bullying tones on the forum, but I think this comment says more about Hosta than the forum. Some people (on this thread) like to fight and rub their hands at comments like those from Baglay Hill. Other people, like me, feel tired at the tribalism. Rationalism seems to fail over and over again. One response is to avoid poitical threads, or indeed social media like this forum, all together. We only have one day to live in and a finite amount of energy for that day. I don't want to spend it getting upset about someone I've never met spouting random extreme opinions such as "Tories are evil" or "muslims are evil" or "Londoners are evil". The internet is chockful of haters loudly hating. It's entirely pointless for me to try and fight that with my day.
They say I have a "thin skin" (I am a snowflake etc). I say they have no sense of consequence of their actions and statements. They think words don't matter much and the internet is a place to insult whomever you want. Because...who cares? I say there are nearly 3000 views of this thread in just a few days. Words count, community counts and we should think and consider before we write and take responsibility for what we put into the world - our actions, ideas, words, fights and insults. Don't hide behind anonymity or bluster. Don't try and start fights because you're bored.

I returned to say that my upthread comment about Tory lies about deregulation and bonfires is unfair. Policies from the labour party also spin the delusion that we can have a fairer, cleaner, healthy society whilst exploding regulation.
Must admit I hadn't noticed anyone saying Londoners were evil - I doubt they are any more "evil" than anyone else. The fact is that London is the UK's seat of power and little we can do to alter it. Your cartoon made me smile tho - "wait a minute - I MUST just answer this post/tweet/WHY "

Maybe I choose not to be offended by something so trivial as a gardening forum. BH has been on my ignore list for a long time. Why don't others use it too?
Bullying to me is being vindictive , or cruel to an individual, not a political party, or the Hitler loving daily Hate Mail, or cats.
If you can show evidence of bullying, I suggest you forward it to @Daniel Haynes
Lady Penelope thinks the best way to help folk is to cut VAT on everything, but not " hand outs " Less VAT on Ferraris and Rolex watches, that's what we all need.
Steven Pinker is really interesting on reasoning and rationality in the public sphere. He’s worth looking into if you are interested in how groups reason and persuade.
@Marlorena I agree with you about BH and I reported it too, but I haven't said anything as I don't like to get involved in politics, or religion, on this gardening forum.
I don't block anyone, as I'm a bit curious and nosy, but I ignore them.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
