Without meaning to be disrespectful or pejorative, when I saw this thread, I jumped in because I thought it give me an insight into those who support Truss (I can't understand it!) with my assumption being that, at least as far as internet fora go, the demographic of this website is likely to be as 'Tory' as it gets. To then see no support here really does make me wonder who this 30% of the country is that believes her to be a great future PM.
There is a political theory that says roughly a third of any country is inherently nationalist, tending fascist, which explains the perpetual struggle for left-wing parties, i.e. UK, US, Italy, Germany, Austria, Australia et al. Perhaps that's as simple as it gets. A third of this country is made up of little Englanders, who don't frequent internet fora, who have no interest in sharing and gaining knowledge on subjects (be that gardening or politics) and are happy to vote for whoever is less likely to let into "their" country people who don't look like them. I'd certainly feel happier if this wasn't - and I don't think it is - a case of British exceptionalism!
@Astraeus I love to use of the word "fora" . Well done you.

I'm rather depressed but I'd suggest the percentage of " tending fascists" is more than that. Just look at the openly racist / homophobic/ islamophobic / anti semitic views being openly expressed where these would be silent about 20 years ago. Many within the Tory party are verging on fascism now.
"with my assumption being that, at least as far as internet fora go, the demographic of this website is likely to be as 'Tory' as it gets. "
It would be interesting to know how you arrived at that assumption.
Through lazy assumption.
Gardening is a vastly predominantly white hobby. Those who dedicate passion and time to gardening may tend to have more time available to them, i.e. be retired. Those who have access and regularly use the internet in retirement are, one would reason, likely to be higher skilled and thus possibly not in the least affluent socio-economic groups. Thus making up three of the key demographic features of perennial Conservative voters.
As I say, nothing pejorative or scientific in it at all but, of all of the groups of which I am a part, this was the one where I felt I may have seen some support for Ms Truss.
Odd @Astraeus . Many years on this forum lead me to think that most of the posters who express political views are centre to centre left in their politics. If you've watched enough GW episodes since Covid started all those home videos and many garden visits and even presenters show the demographic of gardeners to be very wide and from many racial and geographical origins.
There are plenty of fascists across the UK and the EU and they are just as likely to be white supremacists who grew up poor as they are rich or middling. Nor is fascism confined to white people.
From my perspective having lived in it over 30 years and having been actively involved in community life, Europe has its fair share of political views across the spectrum for hard right to hard left but manages socialism far better than the UK and does it without all the blind dogma of UK Socialism with a big S. There's a big difference.

I'd say you got just about every assumption wrong. Its 2022 not 1922. But hey ho.. it is what it is.

Some of the most racist people I've ever met were not white. Their
hatred was sometimes aimed at people who were not white but in a
different way to themselves, some hated all white people, some hated anyone who wasn't just like them.
