funny nobody seems to be speaking up for either of the contenders or the tories in general
Usually there is a 'pile on' to Tory posts. I expect quiet Tories here feel unable to speak without being shouted at. Political topics can get quite fierce here and we need to be careful to keep genuinely curious rather than lapse into bullying tones.
I'd bet my house that the three lazy assumptions I made do, in fact, hold true. There is simply zero chance that this forum's most common demographic is poor, employed POC. Zero.
But kudos for managing to take umbrage with what was my entirely self-deprecating response to being asked how I'd arrived at a (probably accurate) view of the demographic of this forum. And I think there was also an argument that I suggested only white people could be bigoted, which I didn't, or that it was a British thing, which I expressly said it wasn't.
I get this is all very emotive but there's really no excuse for arguing for something 'between the lines' rather than actually understanding what has been written...

And isn't that such a tragedy, when one's world becomes an echo chamber? I adore debate and I'm fascinated by the opinions of others and what drives them. But I agree with you entirely that vitriole is all too common in any political, religious, social or economic discourse. I'm loth to add "these days" to that sentence because that's how I've always known it to be!
Some of the things the Tories have done are good - eg formalising a minmum wage - but their handling of what we might call Social Affairs does seem all too often to be inept and lacking understanding in basic issues. Many seem to blame people for being poor but they are not all feckless and with the right support - education, housing, health care - could be net contributors to society and the nation.
Labour, on the other hand, still seems, all too often again, to believe you need to feed and manage people rather than teach them how to feed and manage themselves and to aim for a better standard of living.
Neither option is a winner for economic growth and more general well-being.

I whole heartedly agree.

...can I qualify that by saying 'organised religion'?
Disorganised religions?
